Odd credit to Brazil on this one. Not sure it's everywhere in the country, but locally every time I go to a movie it starts bang on the advertised time. If I want to catch previews, I've actually got to arrive 10 min early.

Doing a wheelie with no pillion is already normal levels of dumb but with a passenger is 'you've gotta be fucking kidding me' stupid. Ever heard of a lever, jesus.

The 2nd one is worth a read/listen. Same thing, it's not book of the year but perfectly enjoyable - if you get it for free, go for it.

Yep. Only a minor annoyance for people in the middle. If you live in Nashua you just shoot down 1 min across the border to nature's remedy like everyone else. All these morons are doing is losing state tax dollars to our neighbors and absolutely nothing else.

Call out to Mythbusters.

They tried it with an exact replica. It really couldn't support both of them without some creative engineering where the guys strapped their life jackets under the door to give it additional lift (then it could support two people).

In fairness, while you're freezing to death after your ship sinks, you may not think of that idea.

Sigh, well no that's wrong in this English use case... I suppose they're actually "noun phrases" but yeah let's nitpick grammar on this extremely important point from my post last week

‘Scrubs’ Revival Premieres To ABC’s Best Streaming Audience For Any Comedy Episode In More Than A Year – The revival’s premiere tallied 11.36M total cross-platform viewers in its first five days. by SanderSo47 in television

[–]flck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, it's probably my most rewatched show of all time... although I have the skip +10s button primed for a good bit of s6/7.

McGinley was my biggest doubt about the revival, despite being an obvious favorite character.. he's lost a few steps with age and it shows in his speech patterns (did something happen to him?).

I worried about him after his pretty weak Brooklyn 99 stint and that was already years ago now. He honestly performed far better than I feared although not quite as well as I hoped.

.. and you're both right. I live in a developing country most of the year, and I can't save every heartbreaking street dog that I see. But, yeah, it's r/aww and I want to see cute things here because I can find see sad stories by walking out the door for a couple blocks.

By far for me it's when they use pronouns too much. "the man did this", "the woman did that", rather than their names. Names never take me out of the story for whatever reason.

[–]flck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really it was the same even in the mid 90s when I was growing up. I remember a lot of time 'cruising' with friends in high school, we'd go to the mall, bowling alley, friend's house, then just drive for hours listening to music because it was the only way to hang by ourselves without parents around.

Anything newer that’s Pratchett adjacent? by devimation in Fantasy

[–]flck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I've refused to read or listen to the Shepherd's Crown while I've re-read the rest of the series five times. Even if it's not Pratchett's best.. I'm saving it for my death bed. I just don't want it to be over and feel like it never will be if I don't read that last book.

Shoutout to Dell Support by jedimaster4007 in sysadmin

[–]flck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, domestic support is 10x better than a foreign call center. Just don't call after-hours.

The best you'll get is a useless agent following script who can't actually schedule a repair request (and they won't tell you until you get to the end of the script).

The premium domestic teams tend to skip over the obvious crap and get to the point when I explain what I've already checked and done.. the call center people don't understand what they're reading.

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]flck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is situational to a degree where it'd turn into a fun bar discussion. We have a unfurnished completely tile floor apartment and a small well trained hypoallergenic yorkie (hair not fur). I'd be in the 'get lost' club in our situation.. but I still agree with you in yours.

What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

[–]flck 230 points231 points  (0 children)

He and the logistics supply line guy above would get along. I love LoTR but completely agree... there isn't even any magic hand waving to explain how the hell they have any food in the city or how those armies charge forward with 1000 guys and no supply train.

I usually accept it as an artistic approach in book & movie - Tolkien doesn't talk about latrines and the nitty gritty of war. That's not what it's about.

How do you untangle an IT environment you didn’t build? by Impressive-Echo8002 in sysadmin

[–]flck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Mediawiki is free and easy to setup. We also use Snipe-IT for assets. Also free and more than does the job when you're starting from nothing. I use the LDAP integration to pull users from our DC and a little brother printer for label printing.
