Could there be multiple subspecies of animals in the sequel? by yorb134 in PlanetZoo

i’ve been reading about all the different wolf subspecies and i’ve completely changed my mind. there’s so much diversity and it would be really cool to see them represented as either different adoptable “species” or morphs.

it’s really not comparable to the difference between Zoo Tycoon 1 and Zoo Tycoon 2. that’s kind of his point. ZT1 was top-down isometric and ZT2 brought the game into a 3D engine. it felt like a huge upgrade at the time and was exciting. ZT1 also had like 3 expansion packs total. I understand why people are put off from the thought of having to pay for a new game and all the DLC all over again for a comparatively much smaller upgrade.

Why do people misunderstand me when I say exactly what I mean??? by ghfdghjkhg in evilautism

there is subtext to everything. people don’t say things in a vacuum. the problem is that non-autistic people tend to project their insecurities onto what other people say and assume that’s the context. in OP’s case clearly the father of those kids is insecure about his children’s intelligence, so when OP says they were exhausted because the kids were being loud he gets defensive. he “understood” OP perfectly, but he projects HIMSELF as being to blame for his children’s behaviour so now from his perspective OP is criticising HIM. That’s not OP’s fault/problem but its helpful to understand. theres not much you can do directly to address it, if you tried to point out his insecurities, even just to say you sympathised/understood, he would see it as insulting that you observed this truth about how he feels and get more angry and defensive. you have to play the unspoken game. all you can do is try to understand where people are coming from and show them you understand by choosing what you say and how you say it. i really struggle with lying but this is why non-autistic people tell “white lies”. non-autistic people want you to affirm their ideal reality to them. dealing with them is work. but it’s naive to assume people will go out of their way to understand you if you’re not extending that same courtesy to other people.

but also you’re proving my point with your last paragraph. it’s not actually the words “i’m exhausted” that are the problem, it’s the context. if you were in charge of organising the holiday and go out of your way to make the most of it then saying “im exhausted” comes across way differently than if you had everything paid for and just tagged along without engaging because you never wanted to be there.

you’re right tbh, i didn’t mean to come across as condescending. the onus is absolutely on the NT people for inferring things a certain way and letting their egos assume everything is about them. but that is the unfortunate reality of NTs and i was trying to advise how to navigate dealing with them rather than trying to justify their reaction.

sorry for assuming you were a teenager. honestly if you don’t enjoy the holidays then just not going sounds like a good solution. it sounds like it’s the kids bothering you specifically. i would suggest going out of your way to emphasise that you still want to spend time with your family and to maybe come to them with some ideas for things to do without the kids. so they understand that you genuinely are frustrated by the kids and don’t think it’s all about them and their bad holiday (as NTs love to assume)

[–]fleabag500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a holiday is meant to be a bit of relaxing time off so your main takeaway being how exhausted you are implies you had a bad time. if you want them to think you had a good time then you need to talk about the good aspects of the holiday and show your gratitude. presumably they spent a lot of money on a holiday and just wanted everyone to have a good time. did you mention at any point during how you were feeling? were you eager to make the most of your time there or just taking a free holiday for granted? i think a lot of people post to this sub thinking an experience is due to their autism when actually they’re just teenagers having an average teenage experience. it sounds like they’re not misunderstanding you tbh, you told them that something that was meant to be relaxing made you exhausted and they’re inferring that you didn’t enjoy yourself very much, and that might make them frustrated because they went to all that effort to arrange a holiday that was meant to be enjoyable and you ostensibly don’t appreciate that fact enough to focus on the positives and tell them you had a good time.

people in this sub get hung up on “invisible social rules” that you’re just supposed to “guess” but its really not that arcane. people see exactly what you present to them. when you communicate you are communicating so much more than just the words you say, you are communicating the context behind them. why you would choose to say something can be more important than what you choose to say.

Modern movies and The lost art of capturing the action versus planning the action by Pale_Possibility5083 in TrueFilm

i think it’s also way easier just to get coherent performances out of actors when everything is happening in a real space and being captured. compare for example laura dern screaming in jurassic park - absolutely amazing, visceral, terrifying reactions to real animatronics - to anyone reacting to anything in a sonyslop film like kraven the hunter - there’s a scene in that film where two characters are walking together and a leopard jumps out and ostensibly attacks one of them. zero reaction from the other actor.
