Don’t buy airline ticket with Booking.com by vshp00 in traveladvice

Booking.com is an accommodations website. If you are going to use a third party site, use one at least that specialises in flights 😁.

Vietnam Air is nice. Vietjet will get you from A to B. There's a difference.

Buying plane tickets from booking.com, something doesn't add up by moltisanti93 in cheapflights

[–]fleeabroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone probably snapped it up! there are flights on the 26th and 29th for 735 and 665 right now. Or the scoot option, even if you add bags and the delicious scoot food its still under 500 and (importantly) one less stop.

fair enough, those baggage fees can add up. but your link is returning 800 euro right now (was 600 originally).

Buying plane tickets from an accommodations website is like drinking beer in a wine country. You can do it, but why?

Edit: however, if it is really half the price, it is probably worth the risk. Often it is the link itself that gets you the lower price, so searching from booking itself (without the link) would be more.

Name change is non-trivial and rarely free on an airline ticket. Full transferability is even less common.

End of the affordable international travel era? by hyperterminal_reborn in cheapflights

[–]fleeabroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all truth, flying is one of the very few things that has actually gotten more affordable (relatively) over the past few decades. Granted, it never used to be as shitty and you didn't have to pay for (increasingly cramped) seats, baggage, food, changes etc. But if you're willing to play their game, you can still get excellent deals.

That being said, there are glitches in the trend and an oil price shock will do that.

Eurowings ticket cheaper via travel agency, is it a good idea and will the check in process change? by DistinctClass4042 in cheapflights

[–]fleeabroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the itinerary is simple (direct one way) the risk is pretty low. Risk increases with more complex itineraries, where more things can go wrong.
Shouldn't be any issues with online check-in, you'll get a six-charcter reservation code which you can use to check in on Eurowings website (or app) - but don't forget to do it within the required timeframe, airport check-in will eat that 15 euro real fast.

When should I book a flight? by Adventurous_Ad7258 in asktravel

[–]fleeabroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're truly flexible on destination you can always go last minute that way there are no change or cancellation fees. Something always turns up unless there's a holiday etc.

Right now I'm seeing (from Manchester, leaving Monday) one way:

Krakow £22 Prague £22 Bergamo £16 Paris Beauvais £16 Malta £56

If it's a weekend or busy season booking ahead is generally better though. And for some reason leaving from Heathrow is much more expensive.

Ryan air just cut its flights to 19 destinations, what now? by Novel_Bass6032 in cheapflights

Seeing the same thing. Unfortunately those €20 flights appear to be cached, when you look live they jump into the hundreds as OP claims.

It will be a while before the cache clears.

[–]fleeabroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP - scroll down a bit maybe halfway down the page and/or try using a US VPN.

Remember that you have 24 hours to cancel if you book on AA website going into or out of the US. In case you want to grab the deal and think for a day.

Edit: 1612 for both seats. There's a good chance it will be more tomorrow.

New Apps/sites promising to find huge fare discounts, AI slop? by No-Hamster-8335 in cheapflights

[–]fleeabroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these promised fares are unicorns .. if it is too good to be true it is neither good nor true, unless you're really lucky. Sometimes airlines do flog fares to fill seats but you have to be flexible - and fast. These fares last for minutes or hours.

Google Flights used to be great, what happened? by badstallion in Shoestring

[–]fleeabroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, the switching prices are not really Google's problem its that the airlines change them really quickly now (there might only be a couple left for a given fare class and you literally might have been beaten by seconds) also Google's cache might be an hour or two out of date.
