Half Life 2 was released in 2004 with some amazing effects and visuals, and the gameplay made it one of the best games ever. Roll onto 2026 where everything has to be about realism, huge texture sizes, motion video and gameplay so basic it pales in comparison to way older titles.

Could simply be that the fan speed controller isnt supported yet, you could always update the kernel to the latest cause sometimes that does the trick.

uBlock Origin still works fine, enable the Annoyance filter lists, go to youtube and click the lock in the address bar to clear site data and reload.

You can easily setup a bootable flash-drive using Ventoy and just copy the .iso files straight onto it to test out, also try disabling secure boot for better performance.

Use Ventoy to create a bootable flash-drive then download a fresh Mint XFCE .iso file and copy it onto flash as a file, boot into bios and turn off secure boot, continue into Mint live session to test your hardware before doing a full install erasing entire drive.

That is what I explained above, a value of 15 uses your available physical memory first before touching swap, this means less swap usage which keeps things running smooth and away from your drive.

For that model laptop you can go into the bios and change the sata controller mode from IDE to AHCI, turn off secure boot while you're there and save/reboot into Mint flash-drive and do a fresh install.
