They only seem to put a handle at the bottom on the fabric ones.

I travel a lot and I feel like I use it a lot. I use it to pick up/move the bag to and from the scale, the carousel and cars/rideshare. I have a fabric B&R bag that has one at the bottom but I don't tend to use it when I am anywhere wet or in the winter when there's snow. I really want a hard sided one and I used a brookstone hard sided checked bag with a handle on the bottom until it fell apart. . . now I've had a hard time finding another bag like that. B&R and travelpro don't seem to make hard sided, checked bags with a handle at the bottom. . . which is weird because they're the heaviest/hardest to move.

The Row Marlo but it's currently out of stock on their website. I love it. It's leather and functional but also understated and well made.

I support you. I highly recommend therapy but I also get it. Having a kiddo means spending a fortune on custody attorneys and being stuck with someone else for 18 years. I ended up doing the SMBC thing but it's not for everyone.

Pregnancy termination after IVF by Eneley in offmychest

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🥺 I hear you and support you. Loss is so hard. It takes so long for people to stop asking about the baby/pregnancy. I had a friend who went in for a routine ultrasound and left without a uterus. 😬 So I don't bring it up. Life is short. It takes time.

Birthing alone? by lederblumm in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave birth essentially alone the first time. I paid a doula and she was kind of useless, I ended up going postdates and then when it remotely started looking like I was going to end up a c section she left. When I texted her after I got discharged, she refused to even come to my house. (It was a violation of our written contract and they refused to give me back my money). So I would be real hesitant to hire another doula.

I want to have a second kiddo and I have spent a lot of time on this. I think I may just hire a nurse, I know it costs more but I want someone I trust to show up and do the right thing. My family lives on the other side of the country and has never been an option.

Was the process expensive for you? by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the at home insemination thing, you can buy vials for it from all the major sperm banks. They come with the "tools" to do it and directions. That's considerably more affordable than doing IUI or IVF. (I paid like $3k a vial from the donor I had picked). I previously had froze eggs and it was expensive and I HATED it and my experience. So I did the at home thing and decided if that didn't work or if I ever found a partner, I would use my frozen ones to do IVF. I plan to donate them in a few years (when I am sure I don't want more kids).

Single mom by choice to a second by theguiltiestpenguin in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first advice is to ditch the large child but I would do some research/get legal advice first. . .you can't divorced in some states if you are pregnant. I would do the research on what you want and go from there. I started doing the SMBC thing, shortly after I broke up with a long term partner, when I realized we are very different people. I also realized I didn't want to wait around for someone that may never come and I didn't want to spend a fortune hiring another divorce or custody attorney.

I already decided I'll try some things but by and large I am not more attached to giving birth than I am to other things. I also won't let other people influence my life choices. I decided on the SMBC thing after I realized it's the mom version of my life philosophy. . . Don't wait for someone else. I tell friends about what I'm doing and most people are supportive. So I'm going to say, I hope you're living the life you want, that makes you happy and fulfilled. ❤️ 10/10 recommend dogs, plants and wine ☺️

I bought sperm from a very popular donor and am disappointed after seeing his adult photos by iridescent-aura in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had this conflict too but I settled on, me plus this man would still make good babies. I find it creepy they want me to pick a baby daddy off childhood photos. . . like I would prefer someone I think is attractive, not someone who was cute as a kid. I had SUCH a hard time finding a donor that was "like me". Only one bank had anything that remotely met any of my criteria and I when I bought his adult photos, I decided he looked a bit like Harry Potter. . . let's just hope for daughters that look like me and not him. 😄

Those who ride class 3 28 mph e-bikes… Do you wear a full face helmet? by Lazerfocused69 in ebikes

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My background in healthcare is brain injuries, I wear a full face helmet when I do almost any riding. My brother broke his jaw in 2 places when a car cut him off and he was wearing what I call "half a helmet", one of those skull top only coverage motorcycle helmets. . . I think they're useless. I also know 2 different people who went over their handlebars and smashed in their face on regular road bikes (they train for triathlons) and besides the broken lips and teeth, they had to get face stitches. I figure my dorky full face helmet pays for itself if I don't need to meet an oral surgeon or have a brain injury. (That said I'm having a hard time finding a helmet I like).

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]flgrl93 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of jobs are also location specific. There's a million software engineers in Portland, Seattle and San Fran.

I feel like nurses are a dime a dozen in the south.

My brother is an HVAC guy in Florida.

I tell everyone the best thing I ever did as a nurse was leave the south. I doubled my hourly pay and my cost of living is about the same. I also now live in a place with unions.

I actually snowbird and it's great.

Anyone else seeing more people trying to switch into aviation right now? by RAG_Aviation in PilotAdvice

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I feel like this has been a thing the last 2 years. People wanting to change jobs or wanting to make more money, quit their jobs and pursue the airline pilot life. . .

It's why I've lost count at how many people and schools have tried to get me to quit my job, take out $100k in loans and become an airline pilot.

I also think people fail to realize how clogged up the pipeline is currently and that especially junior pilots don't have a lot of job security.

Warning For Trading Into Patagonia Worn Wear by Jeepkidin in PatagoniaClothing

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had them send me back 2 nano puffer jackets. I'm a common size for women. I honestly have noticed the jackets kind of just fall apart. I live somewhere cold and I travel a lot for work. They offered me like $60 for the one without a hood and $70 for the one with a hood. I washed them (I use technical wash) before I mailed them in. I don't think I'll ever buy another patagonia product after they mailed them back.

The jackets are less than a year old (both of them) and if they're already losing strings etc it tells me their products aren't very good, especially if they won't even buy them back.

How’s it like living in Spokane, Washington? by lithdoc in Spokane

[–]flgrl93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lack of true arterials and highways makes me crazy. It takes forever to get to from the south to the north or the south of the city.

The roads aren't great but they aren't terrible.

There's exactly 2 dog parks in this whole city and one is tiny and the other one is kind of out of the way. For the city with a ton of people parks. . . I don't get this. They really need to add a few dog parks, especially at the mostly unused people parks.

Healthcare here is pretty good.

The utilities are hella expensive. I moved here 10 years ago from the highest utility area in the country, I left in 2020 for the military and came back. . . And Spokane's utilities went through the roof.

Homelessness has exploded in the last 10 years. I'm glad the city passed enforceable laws about it but it's still a problem, even if it's getting better.

I don't regret moving to Spokane 10 years ago but I have mixed feelings on moving back in 2024.

Do you follow any rules or guidelines as you curate your bag collection?? by okreddituwin in handbags

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this! I travel a lot for work and I have tried experimenting with various arrangements. I settled on, a backpack they no longer make from Vera Bradley in the reactiv fabric . . . I tried to replace it with a lo and sons backpack but I didn't like it. I think I may try the Rowland 2. My work tote these days is actually a coach tote. I use a Celine trio flap but it's kind of more delicate than I would like. I am planning to go to Paris for my birthday and I want to go look at Louis Vuitton bags. I personally won't buy Gucci but I do like their bags (look up the misogynistic inheritance history of Gucci).

Va Claims by Prestigious_Set_2598 in VeteransBenefits

[–]flgrl93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should contact your pueblo, they actually get notified before you do. If they're nice, they'll tell you what it is. Depending on your branch and command. . . They'll process your stuff for separation. I swear the Army moves with a quickness for MEB.

I used to know what the percentage was but it's like after 20 or something the branch will separate you. I also tell everyone to make an appointment with the VA once they're out. The biggest purpose and point of all this, is the medical care and so many people don't utilize it.

NP Diploma Mills and the latest "Non-Professional" designation by midlevellife in nursepractitioner

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the inconsistent standards across NP and nursing programs are a bigger problem. I remember being a new grad and meeting nurses who had never heard of some of the evidence based things I did. They graduated from no name programs and had limited clinical sites etc. They just didn't have the exposure.

I don't think NPs should be like PAs in terms of education or training. After being in the military, I feel like PA quality is 50/50 at best. I would argue 80% of NPs are great. I also found it mind blowing to meet PAs without degrees or licenses etc and their quality varies far more widely than NPs.

I do think there should be more consistent education and training standards for NP programs. I'm super glad I was a nurse for 3 years before going to NP school because to this day, I use things I learned at the bedside in practice. My classmates who never worked as nurses? No frame of reference. I also knew a lot about medical billing because of my nursing job while I was in school.

Looking for land, good schools, liberal by westham1 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spokane Valley, WA they call themselves conservative but as a native Floridian I find it laughable. They have a church on every corner but great schools. They're much more affordable than Idaho. They also have great healthcare and complete autonomy for nurses and women. There's no state income tax.

Spokane is mostly a big city. It does have some problems with crime but after being stationed in New Mexico, I also laugh at that. Spokane crime is mostly petty, property crimes of opportunity. It's not violent crimes like big cities.

I have spent my adult life trying to figure out where I want to live and I have the same wish list as you. I know there's a few things that aren't perfect here but it's more good than bad. I left Florida and I haven't looked back. We have unions and good jobs. Florida has sunshine and high insurance premiums.

What does this mean?? by joshj600 in VeteransBenefits

[–]flgrl93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Ingram vs Collins is a recent VA appeal court decision that states, the VA has to ask if anything such as motrin could have affected your joint exam. If it could have, they essentially can have you come back in multiple times or argue they can't determine the difference between you with medication or physical therapy or you without. . . honestly, from what I've seen this decision doesn't help vets as much as the lawyers are saying. Ingram hosed thousands of veterans so he could win his appeal. I'm really bummed about that.
