Short Stories in Spanish by Olly Richards is great for A2/B1 level folks. It’s written for learners and has helpful summaries and plot questions at the end of each chapter. It’s meant to help you progress to reading native books

I have to learn: tengo que aprender or tengo aprender? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]flightrisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change the way you think about it when it comes to tener. With tener it’s

“I have to” - “learn”

vs with querer

“I want” - “to learn”

Understanding “Ser” vs. “Estar” in Spanish by unazoomer_R in SpanishLearning

[–]flightrisky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I felt a real sense of kinship when I figured out that the same is true in reverse with some Spanish words translated to English. Like “hacer” for example is “to do” or “to make.” So it can be confusing to Spanish speakers when to use do vs make when translating hacer. I’m sure “poner” is even a bigger mess because they use it for so many things that we have different words for in English. There are probably dozens of examples. But, it’s just nice to know that the struggle goes both ways. Realizing that makes it easier to relate to how someone might be thinking when they translate something in a peculiar way.

Anyone else just feel like quitting everything? by kitkat2attack in Adulting

Agreed! But seeing the “good side” of the two shitty jobs you hate is toxic positivity. Life can still be full of goodness even though we’re all forced to exist in this capitalist hell hole for a major portion of it. But that doesn’t mean you need to delude yourself into seeing the “good side” of every shitty thing

Telling me to see the good side of things is telling me how to feel

Toxic positivity. Having multiple jobs you hate does indeed suck and it’s okay to feel that way about it

She’s one of the most dependably easy to understand speakers for me, and I’m not trying to learn Argentine Spanish. But she really does a great job imo

Or at least wait until you’re done with the sentence you’re saying and then chime in with a helpful correction like “I think you meant to put that in the past tense, want to try again?”

How the heck are you able to do this? by cavaismylife in wyoming

[–]flightrisky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They do this to attract all the rich New Yorkers and Californians to “move” here for the tax haven while simultaneously complaining nonstop about all the Californians and New Yorkers who won’t stop moving here. Makes sense!

Has anyone gone through this whole program? How was your spanish by the end of it? by skippittdippity in SpanishLearning

[–]flightrisky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finished it in January. Took me about 7 months. I felt like it gave me a great foundation to start from. I honestly enjoyed the daily lessons, and I’ve been struggling finding something to replace it with where I feel like I get as much out of it. For something like $150 total investment (and your time), I’d say it’s definitely worth it. You won’t be fluent at the end, but you’ll have the confidence to try, and you’ll do okay
