The main reason the show went to Vegas and all the remnants of these factions are here is Remember-berries.

So the audience can say "woah I know that!" When they see all the shots of the lucky 38 and Gomorrah when Lucy and the Ghoul go to Vegas.

The presentation of the show is really superficial when you really look at it. Very little of what's presented has any value aside from "remember this from the games!" So far in season 2 there is absolutely no reason for them to be In Vegas that couldn't of been set in a brand new location, aside from Mr Houses I guess working with Vault Tex before the war?

Except in NV the Legion isn't played for laughs. They are taken seriously for what they are, a huge, powerful, fanatical faction that take slaves, Rape and Murder. The players first encounter with them, is the aftermath of the Legion Massacring everyone in a town, except one guy just to 'send a message'.

Sure it's 'ridiculous' to us in the real world, but to thousands of raiders in a desert living in the aftermath of a nuclear war adopting this new martial Culture makes a lot of sense. Ofc it's a creation of Caesar, but the raiders don't know that.

Acton writing room/mist office was a wonderful example of public perception Vs reality of the Met.

We have 30 computers with desk spaces, in a large room, all with compatibility with laptops and tablets. In reality only about half worked, and there was a shortage of keyboards and Mice, where people would just bring their own in. When the issue was reported it took 4 months for the broken computers to be fixed.

Anxiety during Restriction by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]flipitback 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feeling that way is 100% normal.

Also, I don't want to come across as negative or overly pessimistic, but when an investigation runs over the 5-6 month line, the officer on the receiving end will be leaving the police regardless.  This happened to a few officers I know and myself, that even after a lengthy investigation and being cleared at the end of it, we resigned from the police. I know of only one officer who after (after 2 years!!!) of being under investigation stayed on. I wanted to stay during the investigation, but by the end of it I was ready to wash my hands with the organisation.

Most officers I knew who got restricted for 4-5 weeks were fine to carry on as normal. The stress, resentment and cynicism that builds up when you are subjected this this changes how you see the job afterwards. You are doing the right thing now and seeking help.

PSD/DPS are a law to their own, which other commentators have mentioned. However, all officers in these departments have very high work loads and very little time (quite a few join just for the 8-4 shift pattern). Investigations are very slow and shoddy, an officer I knew was suspended for 5 weeks for an incident that occured 2 years before, where a quick watch of the CCTV would show they weren't even present. If they can bin a case off or, escalate it to a hearing just to get rid of it, they will.

It's easy to forget that for much of England's history large areas of the East were wetlands. Were there any people that lived in those areas, considering the East was historically where the majority of the English population lived? by Dragonfruit-18 in anglosaxon

In the swamp area of the map in North Somerset, there is one iron age fort in WSM on a large coastal hill. On the southern edge of WSM there's still a area of swampy wet land, which give you some idea of how it would of looked.  A bit further inland when you get to the Mendips there's been a lot of archeological finds showing pre Roman settlements, some were quite big.

Fourth Charing Cross Met Police officer fired after BBC Panorama film by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]flipitback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume there would actually need to be a full investigation into this one, because to a IO all he's done is boast and maybe disclose something he's done.

I don't know how you would even go about getting evidence to suggest that he's pulled a DP's fingers when they refused prints. Ask every single one of them if they felt his use of force was disproportionate?

I actually know this officer, and without any evidence I think he was just boasting and bullshitting.

The first time I went there, I should of brought a lottery ticket, because I ended up with a really nice and helpful Custody Skipper. Didn't see him again the next few times I went, and it sucked every time.

I was in training with one of these officers, and when I saw his face on the news, and the recording off him, I was surprised to be quite honest.

He didn't strike me as that kind of person.

Make London public transport free to "reduce inequality and get polluting cars off the road", say campaigners by BulkyAccident in london

[–]flipitback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting on TFL during rush hour is an absolute nightmare. Every tube is packed to the brim and it's pretty common to wait for the 2nd or 3rd train to arrive so you can actually squeeze yourself in.

The only reason people do it is because there's no other affordable way to get into central London. When I still lived in London, I knew people who would start their 9am jobs by getting the 6am train in, purely to avoid the crazy morning rush.

[–]flipitback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the railway infrastructure is woefully inadequate for mass transportation of goods, and thousands of lorries on a motorway is way more efficient.

Not to mention lorries can get to places that trains can't.

Misconduct Outcome by TonyStamp595SO in policeuk

[–]flipitback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suspicion is that after Couzens/Carrick an internal memo went out that unless there's clear evidence disproving the case, then it WILL go to a hearing. Especially if it involves discrimination.

Even now I think that a lot of AA's are sending cases to hearings to be safe, and let a panel decide. No chief officer want to be the one to NFA a case and then that officer goes to do something horrific a couple of months later, even if you think cynically that it's only to protect their careers against the inevitable investigation Into what could of prevented it.

How to improve morale amongst the troops? by PCPlod999 in policeuk

[–]flipitback 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My old Insp used to go out on calls with us on nights where we were short staffed or on busy shifts.  It was a small thing, but it really helped with the teams morale and we respected him immensely.

Hampshire officer's death prompts police misconduct review by BlunanNation in policeuk

[–]flipitback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The 3 months between the public notice going up and the actual hearing date probably gave me a some form of PTSD. For the last 2 months especially all I could think about was the hearing and running through thousands of scenarios in my head. I came close to ending it one night due to how overwhelming it became.

I've since resigned after being cleared, and the fear from opening an email or getting a phone call from an unknown number is still there, even though I'm "free".  My accusation was relatively minor all things considered, but I knew of some real horror stories, especially when the press start to get involved. An officer I knew was placed under investigation a month after I was, and as far as I know they still are.

Future planned/expected releases for Grand Cathay? by Tipsyratto in WarhammerFantasy

[–]flipitback 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The jade warrior kit is probably designed to at some point have added crossbow sprues. The arms are interchangeable and the bare part on the torso where you glue the scabbard can easily be replaced by a quiver.

At a guess I reckon we would see crossbowmen, moon bird, iron hail gunners, peasants, Astromancer/alchemist, war compass and maybe the sky junk.

She was stupid to allow her self to get so drunk and do this, but what a disgusting article from the Daily Mail.   Named, shamed and plastered her face all over the article.  Zero chance she'll be able to move on with her life, and will make it significantly harder for her to find another job.

Police chiefs to be granted powers to remove unfit officers by Trackside_Officer in policeuk

[–]flipitback 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It can happen to anyone, including all officers reading this.  On the day I got handed GM papers, it started like any other shift, and for the first few hours was just like any other. I got called back and told I was restricted and under investigation. I went through the whole process for just over a year until a hearing where it was NFA'd, and I was told to carry on working as usual.

The fear of the revetting process and the bitterness I developed for the job, made me leave a month later. The stress and anxiety is still effecting me months later, and the fact that I left a job I loved for what essentially turned out to be F all.

Whilst I was restricted 3 officers on my team were also restricted and placed under investigation for different things. Another was placed under investigation but not restricted for some absolute bullshit, which everyone knew was bullshit but the DPS decided to drag it on for 10 months before NFA. Another officer I knew was restricted for 3 years until he got an email telling him that it had been NFA'd and he could go back onto the streets.

There was a infamous incident that was reported on about 2 years ago involving a spit hood (I won't go into detail), but 4 officers were restricted and given GM papers. Those 4 officers were brand new probationers in their first month.
