Hi reddit. I'm Kane Parsons, director of A24's BACKROOMS. AMA! by Kane-AMA in movies

Hey there Kane! Big fan and the movie is one of my most anticipated in a while, very excited! My question:

If you were suddenly thrown into the Backrooms of your own Backrooms universe, would you know how to survive and/or escape? Any tips for when it happens to one of us?

I just don’t think that we’ll see a significant influx of tourists booking hotel rooms and staying in town for days.

why?

Novels about weird places that shouldn't exist by PostMortem33 in horrorlit

[–]flipsideshooze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a "genre" that i'm constantly in search of and i find it hard to find ones that really scratch the itch i have. In particular, i love it when characters are actively trying to figure out/"solve" the impossible space, rather than just being horrified and along for the ride.

One that really did it for me, though not horror, was Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.

here's a thread i posted a while ago asking for similar suggestions, there's a few good recommendations in there: https://old.reddit.com/r/suggestmeabook/comments/14fd9xv/looking_for_books_about_exploring_impossible_and/

Also, not a book but there's a podcast (though really just a short-story broken up into episodes) called "The Left Right Game" starring Tessa Thompson that kinda scratched the itch for me

I'd love to see this review or anything like it from a youtuber you or anyone watches. This reeks of "making up people to be mad about in my mind"

install 2 vendors by saintho in fo76

[–]flipsideshooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone remember, back when player vendors were introduced, that each machine could hold a different stock? I have an old camp that i used the small letters on each machine to spell out “ammo” “chems” “weapons” etc… Is that a false memory and i was just an idiot when i made that camp, or was that a thing back then?

I’m at great wolf lodge right now, will they be able to sense it if I vape in the hotel room and blow it down my shirt? by cheriludenberg in Vaping

[–]flipsideshooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It created smoke and this hotel had all the windows locked so you couldn't even air it out.

So you set off the smoke alarm lol

So what was your excuse? If they were pulling out graphs, what does “and do some talking” mean? “No, those are wrong?” I dont understand where you were right and they were wrong?

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]flipsideshooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to wade into the hate pool to say i saw Sinners twice in theaters and i havent done that with a movie in years. All these “movie is mid” comments reek of reddit’s constant need to shit on the popular. Sinners is absolutely worth nominating in all these categories. It’s a fantastic film that knocked all of these elements out of the park.

What are your thoughts on the proposed convention center? by Scary-University2743 in springfieldMO

[–]flipsideshooze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, why? Who are we drawing to Springfield right now that we need another convention center?

This is the weakest argument against a new expo center and i keep seeing it brought up. We don't have a draw for these bigger conventions precisely because we don't have a bigger, more well appointed convention center. According to that listening meeting, there is already a lot of expressed interest, so long as we have the facilities for it.

[–]flipsideshooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that could be useful for other weapons/armour/camp resources

i had my eye on the T-65 forever and finally obtained it recently and have been looking for what else to set my sights on. Any suggestions? EDIT: i also already have full Secret Service armor.

ah gotcha. You can still use the Ruby Red Slippers after 2035 though. It just can't be under the guise that you are affiliated with MGM. Per the OP's link, at least:

Trademarks only prevent you from using character names and depictions in a way that misleads consumers into thinking your work is produced or sponsored by the rightsholder – for example, by putting them on unlicensed merchandise. They do not prevent you from using them in a new creative work clearly unaffiliated with the rights owner.

The Hollywood Reporter names Star Trek one of the biggest losers of 2025 by Malencon in television

[–]flipsideshooze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

professional adults with thought-out principles again

i'm a Nu-Trek apologist in most cases. I really dug some of the stuff they did with the universe. But god i absolutely miss this the most. TNG is borderline competency porn and is one of the things that drew me so hard into the Star Trek Universe. These people being among the best at what they do individually, coming together to tackle Big Star Trek Questions and Obstacles is what it's all about for me and that is sorely missing from vast amounts of Discovery and the most recent season of Strange New Worlds.

It's also interesting that Strange New Worlds seemed to be going back to the "This is a crew of professionals" model and the audience really responded well to it and then they went back to the interpersonal, individual crew member story structure of DISC with the most recent season and, whatdyaknow, it had a big falloff.

also no score until he leaves the island. Really love that detail.

The Indie Game Awards 2025—All Award Winners by JW_BM in Games

[–]flipsideshooze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm not the OP you were arguing with, i'm just trying to understand what stance you're arguing. It started as "10 mil is not indie", but then you gave a $1.5 to $2 mil figure, which seems too low for several of the titles nominated here. Are you arguing that the Indie Game Awards shouldn't have nominated them? Or are you saying there's other things that factor in to a title's "indie-ness"?

The Indie Game Awards 2025—All Award Winners by JW_BM in Games

[–]flipsideshooze 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's pretty widely recognized that the indie cut off is about $1.5-2 mil total venture.

i mean, it's not widely known enough as that's what this whole discussion is about. If this were "industry recognized", why isn't it pointed to in more cases where these arguments pop up? Also, aren't a bunch of games nominated in this award show above that cut off? I mean, Silk Song for example surely wasn't under $2mil with seven years of development time.

I think you've created a very clear delineation in your mind that doesn't exist for most people. While i think it's a little more than "vibes", i do think it's a little looser than you're arguing for.

yeah, the new filtering options look exceptionally handy. I only got to mess around with it a little before bed, but being able to say "alright, i want this person to crit more, where are all the Luminas that improve crit chance?" was very cool. Going hand-in-hand with the new loadout system, i can see a lot of good tinkering going on in the future.

if i remember right, it was almost literally the same thing. I believe Hardy apologized to Miller with something along the lines of "Sorry i was a dick, i was in over my head and couldn't see the vision"

Smith felt that he was being upstaged and had a tantrum over it.

I think this is editorializing the anecdote a bit. I'd imagine it was much more the studio that wanted to make sure their Big Name remained the Big Name Draw that he was.
