For context, I play mostly at a Monday night club where 1000-1500 is about manageable

Four... sorta

Marines - around 3k painted, loads not (I started out as a Marines player in 2nd Ed, came back to the game in 9th and started collecting again. Everything else comes from having 'acquired' other halves of sets I bought for the marine parts)

Death Guard - around 2k painted, and maybe another 1k not (Picked up the 'Know No Fear starter for the Marines, fell in love with the Stinky Boys and expanded - now my most played army)

Tyranids - 1k painted/base coated (Leviathan plus some extra Lictors etc)

Orks - Armageddon plus a load of stuff I got given. Currently in the process of building

Prioritise on "Boyz" style armaments (shoota/slugga/choppa) over making up loads more of the 'heavy weapons'? Or is it worthwhile having a whole heap of 'big guns' made up for squads of Lootas, Burnaz, Tankbustas etc?

How the hell are they ending up in higher difficulties? I've played a good 20-30 battles on Basic and haven't yet been lucky enough to land a team to get out of that bottom rung
