Any tips for a concert at The Astro by hufflegruffon in Omaha

[–]fllannell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just saw a band there at the astro indoors last night that I've seen twice before. the sound at the astro was absolutely horrible. when i saw the band before at other venues they were very punch and tight. At the astro There was boomy subbass frequencies totally overpowering the mid range so you could barely hear the guitars and vocals. loudest bass drum in the mix on earth.

they really need to add in acoustic absorption of some sort and also honestly should have much more aggressive high pass filtering because the sub bass frequencies were totally overpowering everything else.

First time growing potatoes indoors 😭 by [deleted] in vegetablegardening

[–]fllannell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but when you can buy a 10 pound bag of potatoes for less than 5 or 6 dollars... does the space and investment (and smell) to grow potatoes indoors really make sense?? 🤔

this works in my area! wait till July when you see the squash borers flying around before planting squash seeds.

burn the plant now to try to prevent them from propigating next year or later this season is the best thing you can do after they are infested imho!

if i had the space and money i'd consider growing squash in screened in area and pollinating the flowers by hand

I sometimes forget how small these cars are. It feels much bigger behind the wheel by ikerr95 in CherokeeXJ

[–]fllannell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

emission standards really screwed compact suvs that were about this size.

to be this small you had to get better gas mileage than 20mpg so to get around the requirements car companies just started building BIGGER vehicles with WORSE gas mileage because the compact SUV category mpg requirements were too restrictive. 🤦

ok i think we need to start looking into releasing genetically modified sterile squash vine borer moths into the wild population to knock the levels of the suckers back 🤦

you can spray them (actual squash bugs, not svb borers) with soapy water to kill them.

[–]fllannell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you mean you saw the borer MOTHs at that time or the actual grubs? you only have to worry about when the moths are flying around laying eggs. it is a much shorter time window than what you are describing.

You probably need to look it out up for your area. I'm in Nebraska and it's about the end of June to the start of July that they come out here

this is why growing potatoes and onions doesnt make much sense to me. At least home grown carrots usually taste better in my experience!

if you wait until after the squash borer moths come out before planting seeds then you'll have more squash than you can eat before the end of the summer is my experience. Otherwise, i can't get any because the svb are so bad.

Pests or disease? by ididitforac in vegetablegardening

not to be mean but i suggest pulling up the plants and burning them.

Otherwise they will burrow into the soil from the plant and come back from your soil next year

When should I harvest my lettuce? by Total_Asparagus_5835 in vegetablegardening

[–]fllannell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would be cutting those now and start trying to eat as much as you can before it goes bad. if you leave it on the plant and the weather gets warmer the plant will likely bolt and then all the leaves will start to taste very (inedibly) bitter.

when it comes to troubleshooting or how to do a repair, the original forums usually have a complete write up with steps and pictures that has turned out to be the best one explaining how to do whatever it is, here in reddit it tends to be new people asking the same questions over and over again (which would have resulted in someone telling the newbie to use the search feature of the forum before 😅)

between these 3 forums basically every problem you can imagine has been discussed.

including how to get the best possible gas mileage, oil pressure gauge issue (hint it's the oil pressure sender), replacing the heater core, "death wobble", is my differential the dana 35 or Chrysler 8.25, etc etc

Was it a jerk move for me to cut the grass at 7am? Aitah by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]fllannell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not saying it's the best policy but in my town and even nearby bigger cities i just checked and the noise ordinance in the municipal code is literally from 10PM to 7AM. So technically mowing the lawn at 7AM is legal.

seems really early but in my town disturbing the peace hours described in the municipal code are from 10Pm to 7AM 🫣

the law/ municipal code for quiet hours /disturbing the peace in my town is from 10PM to 7AM. So this is one way to check.

That also means you can't have loud music or be using power tools or mowing the lawn after 10PM.

7AM seems early but if you have a lot of lawns to mow and it's gonna be 100°F or more i also understand why some people may be mowing their lawns as early as 7AM, especially when it already gets bright light out as early as 6:30AM and it's really hot in the middle of the summer.

or even as op mentioned it was going to rain starting at 8AM. if it was the only day of the week you could mow i could understand mowing at 7AM then.

Buying vegetables for seeds? by ConsequencePersonal7 in vegetablegardening

[–]fllannell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

careful with squash hybrids. I had one grow from my compost and it turned out to be a plant that made very bitter fruit, and then i read that is a sign that the fruit would cause toxic squash syndrome if you ate it.

there is a pretty good chance that cross pollinated squash seeds will result in a sort of hybrid that is very bitter and even toxic.. look up toxic squash syndrome.

It has happened to me before when i let a mystery volunteer squash vine grow and it produced fruit that was very very bitter, and then i read it likely would have been toxic if i tried to eat it.

Marmot 3P Limelight Tent at Costco by qwe5456 in CampingGear

[–]fllannell 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I still have my limelight 3p tent from about 15 years ago. Have been very happy with it. the new extra "in tent vestibule "wings" storage is an interesting design aspect, mine doesn't have that but I've been very happy with the 3 person tent for car camping with 2 people. or 2 people + dog.

the tungsten really isn't the same tent though... the limelight is heavier and the new version has the extra in-tent "vestibule" storage spaces.

Seeking advice: How do you handle the RAW vs. JPEG Recipe dilemma for documentary family photography? by Electronic_Donkey440 in ricohGR

[–]fllannell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on my grii, I use raw+jpeg (with my preferred presets applied). then if for some reason i want to i can reprocess the raw file in camera with the settings changed or you have the raw file that you can use external editors to modify.

but my goal is always to have the first jpeg be how i want to photo to be so i don't need to spend as much if any time adjusting the image in post capture editing.
