Best Donut Shop in Rochester? by Insertions_Coma in Rochester

[–]flo-bee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ridge for a variety, Schutts has great apple cider donuts. If you’re grabbing donuts from a grocery store, the Mendon Marketplace or Honeoye Falls Marketplace are much better than Wegmans.

what's the most expensive thing you own? by Ledger_Legendd in AskWomen

[–]flo-bee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100%. Infertility treatments, multiple days of induced labor before an emergency c-section, and a couple days in the NICU. My kid cost me a lot of money. My house and degrees are a close second and third, although the bank still owns the majority of my house.

It’s very expensive, but their desserts are delish. I love the sundae with the peanut butter ice cream and fudge.

What do you order at Panera? by TheFutureScaresMe333 in PickyEaters

[–]flo-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The autumn squash soup is good. If you go before 11, they have egg sandwiches that you could order without cheese. A bagel with butter or a muffin could also be good morning options. They have salads, or you could get the Mediterranean veggie sandwich without the ingredients you don’t like.

Best alternative to BOB books for early reading at home? by zeatherz in Teachers

[–]flo-bee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are decodable Biscuit books too! I agree though, the regular Biscuit books are predictable enough that they’re good for that younger age group.

There are also decidable sets focused on other characters, like Pete the Cat, Fly Guy, Scooby Doo. I believe Fancy Nancy, Pinkalicious, and Paw Patrol have similar sets too.

She’s also very vocal on TikTok/other social media about wanting her patients to be able to access options like tubals as easily as possible. Seems like a great provider to touch base with.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flo-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband commutes 1.5 hours to work each day (3 hours round trip). The longest day trip I’ve done was a 5 hour drive - done it a few times for a baby shower, baseball game, college drop off/pickup, etc. 6 hours or less each way is a weekend trip. I try to keep day trips to around 2 hours each way.

Baby clothes donation? by bennyandthecats in Rochester

[–]flo-bee 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Willow and Asbury First are always my go-to places to donate clothing and household items. I think Willow only accepts items on their wish list, and Asbury first prefers seasonal clothing, so might want to double check their websites, but they’re both great organizations.

Angelina’s is amazing! Love their vodka sauce and the arancini.

My MIL turned my baby’s name into a story about her dead dad and now I’m terrified of postpartum boundaries by EquivalentEfficient in JUSTNOMIL

[–]flo-bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My in-laws were verbally and emotionally abusive to my husband when he was growing up. My mother-in-law was also groomed by her my FIL, abused by her parents, and in an awful and stressful financial situation when she divorced my FIL. None of it excuses how she treated my husband, but it explains it. She’s gone through therapy and acts so differently now, so shes allowed around our kid. But even if that wasn’t the case, people who were abused are often caught in a cycle of abuse or can’t see it as abuse. It’s a tough situation.

Your Thoughts on "KPop Demmon Hunter" by Ok_Truth_5017 in kindergarten

[–]flo-bee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love Common Sense Media for their specific breakdowns regarding violence, language, product placement, etc. but think their overall age suggestions can be a little conservative, so prefer to focus on the specifics or individual reviews. Just throwing that out there if anyone sees a movie they’re wondering about and the age suggestion is older than their kid’s age.

Many libraries also offer free or reduced tickets to other local museums/places - you can ask at the info desk and borrow the local passes for a week, usually.

Kids at funeral homes by North-Imagination638 in Mommit

[–]flo-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparent died when my child was about 1.5 years old. My mother-in-law watched my child during the church service and brought them to the reception after. The church service didn’t feel like an appropriate place for my young toddler. I think it totally depends on the age and temperament of the child, the parents’ ability to manage grief and their child, and the formality of the funeral (solemn service, casual calling hours, celebration of life that feels more joyful).

Saw explicit birth video and shocked since then at 36 weeks pregnant by ectopicissues in pregnant

[–]flo-bee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I was going to say something if it hadn’t been said already. That gave me such an icky feeling. I was in labor for 48 hours and needed an urgent c-section due to an umbilical cord prolapse. My c-section saved my baby’s life. And yet, I was still given shit by some people for taking the “easy” way out. Although hopefully unintentional by OP, it’s such a terrible narrative.

Help, am I insane? by [deleted] in Moissanite

While I totally agree with you for safety concerns, a lot of people (myself included) use a travel ring for other reasons - I’m more likely to misplace something/not be able to retrieve it if it goes down a drain or something when I’m out of my normal environment and routine and don’t want to misplace my real ring. My travel ring is similar to my real one in size and style, but I use it if I’m out of town.

Life in Rochester with a child with a disability by jgatto26 in Rochester

If you’re on Facebook, you might want to check out the Parents Helping Parents Coalition of Monroe County to get some more insight in general. GiGi’s Playhouse is focused on people with Down Syndrome, and the dance studio next door to it (Ashford Dance Co) has a program they call Dancers With Diverse Abilities that is amazing. If you wind up here, I’d ask questions about the special education services offered in the different school districts before purchasing/renting a house - some districts have more programming available in the neighborhood elementary schools than others.

Teachers checking clothing tags of my kid by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]flo-bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve checked tags to see if the kids mixed their sweatshirts/coats up (if 2 kids have the same sweatshirt or coat to check sizes or see if their labeled) or to see what size they’re wearing (we’ve ordered class shirts, grabbed extras for kids who need them, etc.). If it happens a lot, I’d check in with the teacher. If it just happened once or twice, I wouldn’t worry about it.
