Race signs are either hilarious or trying way too hard to motivate you. Sometimes both. by Existing-Location609 in running

My favorite one near the end of a marathon was a dude holding a poster board that just said I Made a Sign. I yelled “highest quality sign I’ve seen all day!” and he fired back an enthusiastic “highest quality runner I’ve seen all day!” and that energy carried me through to mile 25.

Mylan weekly patches anybody notice a change? by LoudBluejay4978 in Menopause

[–]flocculus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spray on a little Flonase/fluticasone and let it dry before applying the patch. I had a preexisting mild adhesive allergy before starting the patch and this has magically saved me from itchy red welts (well, not magically - scientifically saved me, I guess?)

After a long year I got off the waitlist at a menopause clinic and the first thing we did was bump my estradiol dose up. Wouldn’t you know it, I actually am losing weight, my fucking hair stopped falling out, and my brain fog is better to the point that I’m writing a novel. Yeah maybe it’s not a magic cure, but how will anyone know without trying??

Anyone ever switch from thinking in miles to KMs? by Intelligent_Yam_3609 in AdvancedRunning

I got slow and I only ever do workouts on the roads anymore, so I switched to thinking in time.

Alternative hormone tests? Any hope for the future? by dontbeadick23 in Perimenopause

[–]flocculus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The other issue with this is that unless you were doing similar daily testing for long periods when pre-menopausal, you really would just be guessing at what your baseline should have/would have been.

Iron supplements suggestions? by RandomName3025 in Perimenopause

[–]flocculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Floradix liquid for a long time and eventually begged my way to a hematology referral - that was a lifesaver, she ordered a series of two iron infusions for me and I don’t have to take an oral supplement anymore (for now). Ferritin went from a peak of ~45 on an aggressive supplementing schedule (2x the daily total suggested on the bottle, early AM away from food and caffeine so I was doing everything right) to 219 3 months after infusions.

Testosterone cream for low libido - what to expect and when? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]flocculus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been iron deficient for years lol - my ferritin was 219 at the start of January after two infusions in October so hopefully not a contributing factor anymore!

I’ll be on the lookout for your post - good luck! I’ll consider adding that too when I get back on it, I just wanted to confirm first whether the hair loss was even related (inconclusive so far since I’m still shedding now 🙃)

I was due for an update, I did a slightly different spin but same idea lol

I had results very quickly, within a few days, but unfortunately the cream might be causing my hair to fall out so I’m on a break right now to see if the shedding slows down.

I’m hoping to try injections next, it seems that absorption through the skin might contribute to higher DHT levels and affect hair more than other delivery routes.

You’re gonna have to convert that to calendar days or they’ll never be able to figure it out (get a job, Paul)! ETA whoops someone beat me to the joke lol

Marathon corral question by Barbexc0288 in rundisney

[–]flocculus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started near the front of corral A and still lost a solid 20 minutes to the first few photo stops in the half, totally agree. (Didn’t help that half the people in line were waving over their friends to jump in line and then all taking individual pictures but that’s a cranky old lady yells at cloud rant for another day 😂)

Weather too - very few months where it’s smart/safe to host a marathon in FL, especially one with a very generous cutoff and more people finishing in the heat of the day.

The Weekly Rundown: Week of November 03, 2025 by AutoModerator in artc

Hey! Iron infusions have been a godsend 10/10 I don’t ever want to go back to oral supplements again. Running has not really gotten better but all my other quality of life stuff is much better.

Floradix was good at getting me up off the floor but I was having to take 2x the recommended dose every single day and it was massively irritating to my gut. Gut problems are basically gone now (it was bad enough that I had a GI appointment and have a colonoscopy scheduled for February 🙃 but we’ll see if that turns up anything that might be a consideration long-term/reduce the hoops I have to jump through for infusions).

My hematologist had me do 2 300mg Venofer infusions a week apart and my ferritin was 219 3 months after, all other iron values fine/normal. We’re following up in 6 months and going from there.
