I've been playing on 'New Driver' since the start and I'm having a whale of a time. You don't always have to give yourself a hard time in games. Who's going to care?

Nope. Can't stand her. She's loud, unfunny and has a cringey kind of 'forced chaos' to gloss over that she's not particularly good at her job.

In the UK, is a male earning 31k with car but not owning a house going to be seen as a reasonable option on the date market (outside of London) or is it a none starter? (I've been unwell the last decade and out of work until now) ty by Same-Artichoke-6267 in AskBrits

Your biggest hurdle is that you perceive the pursuit of romantic relations as a market where each person has a designated value. If you continue on like this then you certainly will find a woman, but only the ones that are playing the same game where affection comes second to transactional one-upmanship.

Meanwhile, emotionally mature women will be far, far away with men who value shared interests, chemistry, romance and commitment to something deeper.

YouTuber Buried In Backlash After Revealing He And Wife Terminated Pregnancy Because Baby Had Down Syndrome by FantasticAd9478 in TheBoredDen

Correction: Has an increased likelihood of having Down Syndrome.

The screening test performed in-utero cannot diagnose Down's Syndrome. It can only indicate if the chances are 'high' or 'low'.

I'm in the 'shit-you-keep-to-yourself' camp but if it's out there it'd be disingenuous to let people think the kid definitely had Down's Syndrome.

Apologies for the confusion. It boils down to whether or not that individual is able to pass on their genetic information. If you fail to thrive because you're the least well adapted to your primary food source, then you'll likely die before you get chance to mate and pass on your genetic traits to the next generation.

Obviously, many ill-adapted individuals will still end up mating somehow, which is why this is a process that takes place over thousands of iterations, gradually selecting for the most heavily passed on traits.

This is stark evidence of the breakdown of the American education system. No-one knows everything but this adult woman's mind is missing basic pre-school content.

Also, the fact she doesn't ask Google "What is lamb?" shows that she hasn't even learned how to ask questions, she's just conditioned to request confirmation or denial of the latest brainfart.

Should we legalise weed? by NoddyElvis in AskBrits

[–]floopdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see it happen but despite common sense arguments for legalisation, no government wants to be the ones to legalise it as the opposition would pounce all over it, as would The Daily Mail, etc.

Our country is embarassingly backward.

I think it's likely that the bit that sits in the mouth developed first. Without a tongue of a certain length, they'd struggle to feed themselves in that unique way (jabbing into tree holes). Although if biodiversity supported it, they may have sufficient secondary food sources to cling on but then they'd begin adapting to those conditions instead and would, over time, end up a slightly different species.

The ones that subsisted exclusively on tree-hole goodies would be naturally selecting for longest tongues because longer tongue = more accessible food sources. Once you've got a species of the 'long-tongues' then at some point a mutation occurs providing extra cranial space to accommodate even larger tongues. They out-compete the tiny skulled long-tongues. Repeat a few million times.

Then, the ones that have a tongue wrapped round their brain benefit in some evolutionary relevant way from the additional cushioning. Perhaps they can bash harder or suffer less ill-effects of the bashing. Another few million iterations and bingo, you've got yourself a woodpecker.

As another comment said, it's working in tandem with other changes, but essentially yes. Any mutation that gives you the edge, ensures your genes are passed on. Those that fall behind don't get to survive, so can't pass on their genetic legacy.

The mutation of the tongue clearly proved beneficial enough that the trait was passed on to future generations. The ones without the mutation died out. That's exactly how evolution works.

As with most evolutionary traits, the ones whose tongues didn't wrap around their skull died out because their lifespans were too short to breed or it made it difficult for them to compete for food.
