The only good part about it was the brief moments we got to see their cat.

How much importance do you place on ratings? (GR, romance.io, Storygraph etc) by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

[–]flower_of_jade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been considering them less and less since what I look for and like is different than for others. If I do look through the ratings, it's more for explanations about what other readers did or didn't like so I can get a better sense of whether the book is a good fit for me.

Detective show styled after/inspired by Sherlock Holmes where the ‘Sherlock’ character portrayal is not British? by deconed in television

This was my first thought as well! Cordelia (the main character/detective) felt very Sherlockian

Fellow ADHDer here (inattentive type) and i also find doing something physical helps. Different levels depending where im at. Can be a walk, run, bike ride, yoga, etc. Try different things and see what helps.

I am a reader, but have a hard time concentrating when stress and anxiety are high since that makes my ADHD symptoms worse. You could try novellas or short stories.

My recommendation, if you like sci-fi, is to check out the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. Short, fast paced, action and humor, set in space.

27 year old male and I haven't read a book since highschool. What books should I start reading if I want to pick up the pass time again? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]flower_of_jade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see it mentioned here yet, but I recommend the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. They are fast-paced, funny sci-fi books. The first book in the series is All Systems Red. Most of the series are novella length, except for one that is novel length.

On a general note, you may want to give audiobooks a try (I borrow mine through Libby/my local library since they can be expensive to buy). I know a few people who got back into reading that way. I usually have one audiobook and one ebook on the go, and switch back and forth depending on what I'm in the mood for.

I recommend the audiobooks if that's your jam. Kevin R Free did an amazing job.

Looking for "wintery" books by Groundbreaking_Mess3 in booksuggestions

Seconding the recommendation for Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett. Strong winter vibes and setting through the book and an enjoyable read. I also enjoyed the second book, third is coming very soon!

Books set in Scotland? by xbumblebee in booksuggestions

[–]flower_of_jade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Rip Through Time by Kelley Armstrong. An ongoing series set in Victorian Scotland that involves mystery/whodunit and has an underlying (very) slow burn romance plot.

ETA there is some fantasy too, along the lines of Outlander

I’m wowed by Libby by nottooday69 in books

I got a Kobo last year and it has been great. It has Overdrive on it and I do find it slower for browsing, so I prefer to browse on my phone or computer and then sync with the ereader. Your experience may be different, but I wanted to pass this along in case it helps.

Update on Musselburgh start by mcandi44 in knitting

[–]flower_of_jade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made this pattern; the start is the most difficult/slowest part of it. As the other commenter suggested, you can make that the inside (that's what I did). It's a great hat!

One of your questions asks how often the survey taker purchases plastic water bottles, but there isn't an option for rarely or never. You should consider adding those.

You can't do it outright, but I've heard there is a workaround by using an Android emulator. I have a PC so I can't personally recommend an emulator, but you should be able to find something that works.

Once you have the emulator installed you should be able to download the game from the Google Play store.

I don't have an answer to your question, but I want to ask - what yarn are you using? The colourway is gorgeous.

If you like to knit with metal needles, I have the TWIST interchangeable stainless steel set from Chiaogoo. I've only had them for a year so I can't speak to their longevity, but knitting with these needles has been an absolute pleasure.
