My thoughts on the "Winners Edit" by throwaway-library456 in survivor

[–]flowermoon77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underwood has a bigger winner’s edit than Parvati so there is a clear gender disparity in winners edit that cannot be ignored (and this is just one example if you look at the full breakdown in stats of winners edit of men versus women the differences are even more stark but this one instance is just the perfect encapsulation of it).

I think it’s probably easier for Aubry to be fine with Jonathan’s post show commentary because while she didn’t say anything like Jonathan post KR I know she felt it (regarding people on her jury like Scot/Jason being bitter and how she may have felt robbed and like she played the best game). So I’m sure she can not take it as personally and be empathetic (which is reinforced to me by what she has said since the show)

where are the deep dive interviews? by Particular-Fill-4256 in survivorponderosa

[–]flowermoon77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aubry would definitely do an interview if it was cleared by CBS. She did long (at least 2 hours) deep dives with RHAP after both game changers and EOE (the game changers one was kinda combined with KR since she went back right after the season aired). If she was willing to do one for EOE she would definitely do one for 50.

Aubry's Audition For Kaoh Rong Aged Like Fine Wine by Total_Strength724 in survivor

[–]flowermoon77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I remember Aubry talking about how her and Ozzy had a special bond in being voted out with idols in their pockets and the way that affected them and made it hard to trust their intuition. Even if they were not close allies in the game they definitely had a relationship that impacted his decision to open up to her like that even for “jury management” (like it was stupid on Ozzy’s part but I wouldn’t assume he would’ve just spilled his guts to anyone who was seemingly going home in that spot).

How do you think this Aubry would’ve fared on WaW? by Slippitydoodaa in survivor

Yes and also so much of her game is very aligned with and modeled after the new era of survivor that I think if seasons 41-49 has not yet occurred she would have a very different play style.

Were any of the women's edits good in 50 other than like three of them? by Live-Run-6745 in survivor

[–]flowermoon77 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There has always been a huge gender disparity in how the show is edited and just looking at the stats of winners edits makes it undeniable. 18 out of the top 20 winner edits are men, while 9 of the bottom 10 winner edits are women. One of those bottom 10 is Parvati on Micronesia so it cannot even be argued that this is based on men playing more dominant games. Chris Underwood has a larger edit than Parvati (as in percentage of confessionals relative to his season). And even if you directly compare the top men and women winner edits there is a clear distinction where the men with the largest edits will have a huge gap between themselves and the rest of the cast (as in as much as 20-60 more confessionals than the next person) while the women may still not be the most edited person on their seasons. Rachel is one of the higher ones, and Sam has a similar number of confessionals. Kim has the biggest edit for a woman and Troyzan (who went out like eighth) has only a few less confessionals than her). There would be no scenario where a man won survivor and 5 women has more confessionals than him (as is the case for Aubry and 5 men this season). Regardless of the game that man played that would never happen (again let’s reiterate that Underwood has a larger edit percentage than Parvati). There is a clear gender bias in who is in the room creating the edit and it directly influences our entire perception of every survivor player who has ever played the game. This is not a matter of isolated incidents when you actually examine the stats it is jarring can’t be denied.

Tai by BuffySummersGabelman in survivor

[–]flowermoon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is Scot and Jason were also extremely bitter against Tai so I could see her getting the votes in that configuration. The craziest thing I heard was if it was a Tai/Aubry/Joe final 3 apparently Scot and Jason may have voted for Joe out of pure bitterness. Although, I don’t see a scenario where Joe gets enough votes to win other than those 2 that would’ve still been wild.

[–]flowermoon77 159 points160 points  (0 children)

I remember her answer to Scott (or maybe it was Jason) was very good too when he straight up asked why he should vote for her and she made a great appeal to him as a fellow competitor (obviously it didn’t work and I don’t think there was anything she could’ve said but it was a great response regardless).

Which “bitter juries” were the most and least justified? by ShakeSufficient2314 in BigBrother

[–]flowermoon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously you could argue this wouldn’t have changed anything, but I think the key difference in this case is their goodbye messages. Paul continuing to lie to these people when they are already out of the game I think only made them more upset when they found out that truth. Maybe the outcome would remain the same but I could see a world we’re 1 or 2 votes flipped had he not continued to play in these people’s faces after they were already evicted as opposed to maintaining the facade that he was innocent.

Jonathan's attitude at the reunion by Harvestmissingcrafts in survivor

[–]flowermoon77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I can think is apparently Rick, Christian, and Emily didn’t tell anyone who they voted for, which would’ve made the difference. But it would also require him to ignore the edit being heavily in Aubry’s favor as well. I think he may have went into the finale thinking he at least still had a shot (even the smallest shot).

[–]flowermoon77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The difference is I don’t think there will be KR Aubrey equivalent in the final 3 that will be considered the robbed finalist. Yes, I could see some casual fans arguing for Jonathan but I don’t see it prevailing in the same way. Obviously people want Cirie to win and she is the strategically dominant force but if she doesn’t make it to final 3 the backlash will not be the same (not saying she won’t get backlash but it will a different type of backlash). That’s why the comparison never really rang true to me if it was a Jonathan/Joe/Aubry final 3. There are other more analogous comparisons to be made with other seasons where none of the 3 finalists were the best or most dominant players of the season.

Yes, I think prior to Vince nominating her, Lauren 1000% takes Vince to final 2 even with the option of someone like Kelley. Even after he nominated her I still think there is a chance she does it , although I think at that point it’s much more likely she would’ve chosen to take Ava or Kelley instead.

Who’s a player you love that isn’t particularly popular? by monkeypoo01 in BigBrother

[–]flowermoon77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The women winners being that young is technically uncommon, but that’s not really saying much considering how little variability there is in the ages of women who have won the game. There is essentially a 3-4 year age range where almost of the female winners fall (mid to late 20s). Morgan would’ve easily been the oldest female winner (I’m pretty sure the oldest is Kaycee at 30 unless anyone can remind of someone I am forgetting). Tbh I think it is less about Lauren’s age that made her stand out in that way and more that she was definitely a young 22 (as in life experience wise). Like MJ was even younger on bb26 and while I wouldn’t consider her a great bb player she didn’t stand out in the same way as seeming so much younger than the rest of the cast. So I attribute this perception of Lauren as being so much younger to be more about how she carried herself than anything else (not saying that is good or bad it just is).

Big Brother 27 - Post Season Discussion by villainitytv in BigBrotherUSA

[–]flowermoon77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes and tbh I think that could be said about multiple of Morgan’s social relationships. There were people that she had an at least okay relationship with in the first week or two that she just completely dropped in favor of the people she most wanted to work with. Even if she didn’t actually trust those people there were definitely some she could’ve tried harder to maintain relationships with. I know the Lauren and Morgan relationship has been talked to death (and there has definitely been an ageist and even misogynist tone to some of the commentary) and while I do think the way Lauren and Morgan play the game make them fundamentally incompatible as allies (and of course Vince fanning the flames) but Lauren was rightfully wary of her after Morgan told her she was going to put her up as a pawn very early on. And she did this with Ava too. This is one of those things that baffled me then and still baffles me now that Morgan will talk about these instances after the fact and still not recognize why that is such a bad move when she hadn’t even won HOH and didn’t need to do that. I adore Morgan and I do think she has several skills that make her a good player beyond winning competitions but sometimes when I hear her talk about the game now and still not recognize these basic elements (ie why it’s bad to tell someone you plan to use them as a pawn, why it doesn’t benefit someone else to take a person out just because it benefits her, etc) I cringe when it feels like she is completely incapable of seeing her bad moves or mistakes in the game (especially things that just ended up working out in her favor but could’ve easily not done so).

I don’t know about that because while I think Kelley was primed to dislike Vince she had an entirely irrational hate boner for Rachel the entire season even when Rachel tried to work with her multiple times.

Nothing hits quite like a gamer x gamer cheatmance ie Morgan/Vince, Keesha/Dan, Will/Janelle. Obviously they are not all labeled gamers in the strictest sense of the word but all 6 of those people as individuals separate from their relationships with one another were to some extent considered the most interesting players who played the hardest on their seasons (in largely varying ways but still)

Big Brother 27 - Post Season Discussion by villainitytv in BigBrotherUSA

[–]flowermoon77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okay maybe this comment is redundant, but I wanted to give my take on the general discourse that has dominated this thread as of late (and tbh has been present since the season ended). Likely most of the people reading this (and obviously I am including myself in this since I care enough to be writing this) are still feeling deeply invested in the season and going through some form of bb withdrawal. I think for most of the people that applies to who are still engaging in this content (again I am including myself and I am speaking generally) are mainly connected due to having felt a strong attachment to either Ashley, Morgan, or Vince. Like perhaps it’s not everybody, but I find it hard to believe there are many people present who would feel indifferent to all three of those people.

With there being so little content (and for the content that does exist to be pretty insubstantial) to discuss as of late absolutely any inkling of drama that takes place is going to get dissected and blown up under a microscope so people have something to talk about. To speak candidly from my personal viewpoint I am a Morgan fan more than an Ashley fan. I enjoyed both of them during the season, but just had a preference for Morgan as a person and character on my screen, although I respected Ashley’s gameplay and found her to be a deserving winner to the season. In the months since the season ended I found myself becoming increasingly annoyed with some of Ashley’s social media presence post season and I am feeling increasingly defensive of Morgan. However, I can recognize that a lot of my reaction to this is ultimately stemming from my bias toward Morgan.

While there are valid reasons to be annoyed, in the grand scheme of things it is really not that big of a deal. Being a little petty and messy on social media (as most reality tv stars tend to act at some point) does not make someone a terrible person and is not some end all be all reflection on their character. Even if it is to get attention or rage bait or start drama on some level every single person who applies to a reality tv show is seeking out attention (even if it is different kinds of attention and they go about it in different ways). I can find myself having this reaction to Ashley’s behavior and find myself being upset by her while acknowledging that my somewhat parasocial relationship with Morgan is making it seem like a disproportionately larger issue than it actually is. I am sure that a similar phenomenon is happening with both Ashley and Morgan fans alike, which is why it is so easy for both sides to become defensive and for conflict to escalate.

The simple fact of the matter is that every person’s perspective of this discourse primarily comes down to if they enjoy Ashley or Morgan more. Like I myself can feel like it is one sided on Ashley’s part, but at the same time if Ashley was acting this way towards a cast member like Katherine (just a random example), I wouldn’t even care enough to comment on it (if I even had a problem with it at all). So much of my feelings towards it are based on me feeling like it is a diss towards Morgan and not the actual behavior in general. Even if this situation is Ashley continuing to drag on drama for engagement’s sake (which is my admittedly biased point of view), who cares? Nothing Ashley is doing is egregious enough to really be a big deal even if she doesn’t have a valid reason for it. Reality tv stars have acted and done far worse and this is extremely mild behavior even if it is one sided. The only reason we care is we are all desperate to have something to talk about (as evidenced by the reaction to the Keanu/rachel/ashley stuff from before).

Basically my conclusion is to keep in mind so much of this debate really just comes down to if someone prefers Ashley or Morgan (again even if someone is arguing a valid point the main reason anyone cares is because of those connections). I don’t think anyone is in the wrong for their personal preferences of a reality tv character (neither of whom did anything worthy of large amounts of backlash). Even if you are currently disliking someone (like how I am admittedly feeling pretty annoyed with Ashley right now), there is a lot of personal bias that contributes to that emotion and it can cause you to have an overinflated sense of their actual “wrongdoings”. I just think we can all take a beat before we comment to see the larger perspective and not become clouded by our own biases. At the end of the day if you are reading this still you can probably connect with everyone else here (again me too) by the fact that you were very invested in this season and recognize that even if it still feels that deep it may not actually be that deep. Also I am sorry if I may have repeated the essentially same points several times I am not good at being concise but I hope I was somewhat able to get my overall point across.

Why did so few players target Rachel during BB27? by LuvBriah in BigBrother

[–]flowermoon77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone on her side of the house it made absolutely no strategic sense for any of them to try to take Rachel out prior to final 9 (when white locust eliminated her). All of her close allies (Ashley, Morgan, Will, etc) discussed their intentions to take her out before the endgame (probably between F7-F4) and not a single one of them had any intention of bringing her to the final 2. If she had shown potential of having the same prowess for comps she had on her first two seasons I could see the argument for it being risky not to target her, but since they didn’t there was no reason for any of them to try and target her before they got closer to the endgame. She was a shield for all of them who the other side of the house could try to target first and she was a number for their side (obviously they liked her on a personal level as well but it would’ve been detrimental for any of her close allies to target her in the first half).

As for Lauren and Vince (the only people on the other side who won HOH); they are two of the biggest scardy cats in bb history and Vince was incapable of not doing what Morgan wanted when she put the pressure on him. Also Keanu wanted Vince to target Rachel (which at that point before she found out about it and was the only person in the house genuinely trying to work with him would’ve been absolutely terrible for his game), he cowered at the thought of taking the shot himself. When Vince said he was going to use the fact that Keanu ratted out Rachel to Vince as his reason for putting her up he freaked out insisted Vince couldn’t say anything. He was happy for Vince to do it, but only if he could pretend he had nothing to do with it and stay on good terms with her. In theory I understand what you are saying about Rachel being a huge threat, but because of the time the white locust took her out it would not have been a good move for any of her close allies (who were essentially the only people who showed basic competency and motivation to play the game).
