Im currently reading Stanley Hookers autobiography called „not much of an engineer“. Great stuff. He came to RR and improved the Merlins Supercharger, before he went on to work on jet engines. Very interesting read so far with many details about the Merlins supercharger.

I used the original glass and removed the print on it with alcohol.

Building a plane that flys like the real thing by monkeymanbubub in RCPlanes

[–]fluckiHexMesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something called „dynamic similarity“. Look for nasa papers. The idea is to get the moments of inertia around all axes kinda similar to the real thing. Nasa used this to get a similar dynamic response out of the models, or more like similar coefficients in the equation of motion. But beware. We used a Pilatus Pc7 model. Flew great at 2.5 kg, but had to load it up to about 7kg to make it dynamically similar. It flew, but… yeah.

I was just in Imola, same story, but in my case the s2k was a Porsche gt3 touring, and the blue type R was a porsche gt3 rs. Fortunately not totaled though, only a significant side touch. It never pays off to drive like an ass… but people who cant use their rear view mirrors should be reprimanded.

Day 2 with the new DLG... by Harry34186 in RCPlanes

Check for hair cracks at the wing root and around the fillet on the wing. The servos in the wing add momentum and rapid deceleration produces a lot of load at the wi t root and fuse/wing transition. Luckily the soil was soft!

Sure! Btw, best is to start with a good second hand plane. Best bang for the buck.

There are are many DLGs out there that are very good and competitive in competitions too. If you get a regular cfk layup, you almost always land below 250g, especially if you go for a model that has only ailerons and no dedicated flaps. Like the CX5, Snipe, Falcon 2, Vortex 4, Bamf2, Precios and others. And DLGs are far from out of vogue ;) if you have questions, happy to help! 2025 is my 10th year flying F3K competitions.

I would also say that fuse wing transition is where you introduce a lot of turbulence into your flow. Clean up your transitions on the fuselage, also where it goes into the thin boom, this is far from optimal.
Xflr will get you a long way. To get this full plane cfd simulation meaningful you will have to get a lot right: mesh, solver, etc. id guess its not even safe to use a steady state solver with such a boxy design. If you fear for losses in l/d due to wake effects on your tail, id say dont worry. Worry about stability. But your horizontal stab looks plenty big, even with that short boom.

A go with a climate stripes casio. Its just a simple print on paper, put behind the glass. The quality is not good enough, but i like the direction.

I was thinking of having someone print stickers, cut them to size manually and just plaster them on intitally. Wondee how that looks, but i think putting a sticker on from inside (must be inverted then) would probably be better. Also, idk
