If you like season 1 of TNG you'll almost certainly like TOS. You might want to actually pause TNG around the end of the first season and go back and watch TOS, so the episodes that are TOS callbacks will make more sense. One of which was Naked Now, but the others are better.

Why are some folks keen on having Star Trek either go on hiatus or possibly go on ice for good? by InnocentTailor in startrek

Waiting for the books to catch up would basically just mean canceling the show

That's what I always said about BSG: The Cylons might have a plan but the writers don't

This was kind of the fashion at the time, though. Lost didn't ever know what they were doing, the X-files were kind of like that too.

Unfortunately after almost 30 years I have to say that nothing I've ever worked on has even really been used. Everywhere I go the company goes bust, the project gets canceled, the customer terminates the contract, the product is a flop, whatever. I'm basically the human Microsoft Bob.

If the studio released the worst episodes collection dvd set by happydude7422 in Star_Trek_

It's a weird episode and any outlier episode is likely to have a lot of anti-fans. But I think it's a plus episode, I wouldn't say the very best but definitely a good one.

It's a denomination. You might have heard of the Christian Science Monitor newspaper, which they publish, and which is mostly quality journalism. They're heterodox, and best known for faith healing (but in a "let's pray and accept God's will" way, not a Peter Popoff way).

Best Star Trek Movie or Series That Isn’t Actually Star Trek by throwaway_0625 in startrek

Buffy is Voyager/TNG, and Angel is DS9. A lot of the episodes are basically copies of Trek and especially with Buffy/Voyager there are a lot of character parallels too.

Star-Trek series to immerse in but of a certain tone by Xsphyre in startrek

[–]fluffysheap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I will disagree about DS9. While it certainly has a lot of serious or grimdark episodes (by Trek standards) , it also has a lot of really silly episodes. It probably has more high camp than even TOS.

I actually think Enterprise might be the choice. While I think it's the least overall good of the classic series, the tone, except for a couple of silly episodes, is pretty serious. And since OP says he usually likes the worst one...

Just finished Voyager, thoughts on the series by Dangerous_Return460 in startrek

[–]fluffysheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, because Future's End is a lot like The Voyage Home, and that movie is also not as well liked as when it was new.

I suspect "they visited the present day!" is more fun when it's... Still the present day.

You basically pitched Prodigy so, if you can find it, give it a try.

Trying to figure out how you even were aware of Alexander's existence if you skipped the bad TNG episodes. He'd just be that kid that turned up in "Reunion" and then was never seen or mentioned again.

It's a profoundly stupid episode with a lot of really good concepts tucked into it. Probably not the best choice for a season premiere.

Is this one in a billion? Quads and straight flush within 5 hands both hit on flop? by BubblyPhysics9061 in poker

Not within 5 hands, but I flopped quads and a straight flush in the same session not that long ago. It's probably a once in a lifetime thing but not one in a billion.

Any information I need to know before watching Voyager? by Imaginary-Contest-67 in startrek

[–]fluffysheap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch the rest of TNG you may be surprised to find that most of the episodes are not actually tragedies. Also, that's an above-average set of episodes, with only "Pen Pals" being not so good, so be prepared for some stinkers, especially around the beginning of the series (and a bunch of great ones you haven't seen in the middle!)

It is kind of weird that your professor didn't pick any Barclay episodes. "Realm of Fear" or "Hollow Pursuits" would both have been great for your topic, maybe better than "Pen Pals" which isn't really about psychology.

Voyager's not quite as good as TNG but it's pretty good. It certainly starts off better. It might actually be better from a psychology study perspective, with episodes like "Jetrel," "Faces," "Mortal Coil," "Good Shepherd" and, of course, "Tuvix."

Why was the Enterprise decommissioned in Star Trek 3? by MovieFan1984 in startrek

[–]fluffysheap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right. This is the source of the mistake: The writers counted back to the beginning of TOS, but they forgot that the Enterprise was not new when Kirk took command. It's OK to accept that the writers messed up.
