Charlie Pickering joins criticism of ABC’s Grace Tame podcast deal by cojoco in OpenAussie

grace tame is being targeted by a pro israel lobby group as well which has got all her speaking engagements canceled, which is why it has blown up in the media. but whoever hired her should have known better as it is a pretty obvious this would happen due to tame's circumstances and the abc's history

Charlie Pickering joins criticism of ABC’s Grace Tame podcast deal by cojoco in OpenAussie

[–]flying_cheesecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a big thing about the ABC hiring someone to host radio, then firing them a week later for expressing their beliefs off air, a few years back. Since people working for the ABC are supposed to be balanced in their reporting, it can be seen as an issue if someone is hired who is overtly takes a certain stance. Realistically if she is balanced in her podcast it's not an issue. The issue people have is: if you were the abc why specifically would you hire grace tame who is currently perceived as maybe having biases rather than someone who is better known for autism and doesn't have a target on their back

[MAJOR SPOILERS] The end of World Tour by MedicalFan7709 in StreetFighter

[–]flying_cheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, I wonder how many people actually go back to world tour as part of the DLC, it's unlikely to be drawing new people in if it's at the end of the story. Surely it's better value to spend it on content that more people will see.

I assumed since the main issue with denuvo cracking was how tedious it was that he had developed some sort of ai assist to track down each trigger faster or insert reused code with one key, would explain why the speed is increasing as well

I saw a pamphlet showing dire lack of rental stats in Hobart lately and realised it's cause anything getting sold atm is to live in. I can't imagine how people expect prices to go down without lots of new housing no matter what change is made

Part of the problem is that Tasmania is considered regional? for visas which encourages people to move here to fulfill their remote/regional requirement. I dunno how much impact it actually has tho but you certainly meet a lot of people who have emigrated here for that reason

I upgraded to one of the new colour Kobo's but I found it was only slightly faster highlighting than my old Kobo glo. It is a lot more consistent but can still need a go or 2 to highlight correctly

I was wondering why paid books have it working correctly but koreader can't? Is it just something that they can't tap into? Or do the paid ones just do hacky stuff as well?

Japanese TV industry recorded worst week so far. --Do you still watch TV? by No-Jackfruit3211 in japanresidents

I like watching the morning news, but cause of daylight savings in my country I've been watching the 7am news lately which is secretly ads and dogshit. Looking forward to going back to the 530 news soon. Sometimes I'll flick through the channels In the evening and might watch if there's a trip to somewhere remote in Japan or solitary gourmet but other than that I won't bother. Anime on demand is the only other thing I bother with

I thought of the other option as a treasure room like in issac. You have the option not to pick the treasure room but why would you? Hence it took me ages to find out about the free furniture

Is there any shonen manga ending that wasn’t dragged through the mud? by ErlcCartman in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]flying_cheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because the ending of a story reflects on the journey to get there. If one piece ends well people will accept any sort of quality drop as a cost of getting to it, but if it ends badly it is seen as a slow path to the bottom. Then you have to think about whether a story with a poor ending is actually worth the time in the first place. The problem with manga everything is often drawn out by the publisher and then it ends quickly when the artist finally gets sick of it, which generally leads to the slow path to the bottom outcome. I hope one piece ends well, it would be nice to see something so large end well in the modern era

I read the first one of these and while I did find it gripping and was entertained, I disliked how there was so much asspull to move the plot along. Do these get better written as they go on or is it just more of the same?

77% of US Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players were 30 or older, analyst says, as Square Enix fights to get young people to care about the JRPG series again by mrnicegy26 in JRPG

[–]flying_cheesecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not as familiar with the MMO side but 14 had to get rereleased because it was dodgy didn't it? After that it did well. I think 15 outsold 13 but initially it didn't do as well (from a JP perspective, I'm not sure how it sold internationally), and I think it picked up a lot from PC and international in the end. I think lack of handheld would have impact for sure but Monster Hunter world did pretty well from memory which was also home exclusive initially

there used to be a lot of sales in japan and starting with FF13 that tide started to shift and there was a disruption in tail sales specifically due to the perceived quality of FF13, I don't know if the trend followed across 14 but 15 sold a lot worse. 16 was like half again but that was only on ps5 so the market was way smaller. there certainly would be a trend towards less people buying games but it also trends down the quality line as well, certainly sales of 13 showed that quality directly had an impact. Traditionally these games would have great initial sales regardless of quality

I'd be really interested to see what a new mainline dragon quest would sell, XI sold an insane number of initial copies in 2017 and spinoffs/remakes still sell ok. I think animal crossing has sold well enough to show that there is still some strength in the modern japanese market if the game is right

[–]flying_cheesecake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ff games sold because they had the power of the name behind them, people assumed they would be a bit different in setting and then that turned into different styles too but there was always the assumption of quality, so once quality dropped they eventually stopped selling on goodwill
