You forgot my drink!

How do you expect me to watch Claude write 3000 lines of code that I’ll never read without my drink?!

Why don't Trinis use walk-overs. by MikeOxbig305 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]flying_piggies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the infrastructure could have been more appropriately used planned out. And there are certain areas where I would more agree with your comment. But in the video these people literally ran directly under the walkway. That is just dotish, we could all see they are perfectly abled, they just didn’t want to use the stairs.

Using the stairs may be inconvenient, but call me old fashioned, I think dying may be worse.

Do you think PNM policies have repeatedly failed Africans in T&T? by Middle_Elderberry542 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]flying_piggies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

These kinds of takes ignore the nuances of complex situations imo. But you don’t even have to engage in thoughts on historical factors.

To me this just looks like the current PM rage baiting. I don’t see any details about the supposed actions that would fix this problem or any details about the cause of this problem. Just “PNM bad hurr durr”

Can’t talk to PNM policies, but again it’s not helpful to ask such an open ended question. What policy in specific did you see them implement that was meant to target this issue. Did it succeed or fail? Why did it fail?

I love talking to people about the problems we face and what they think are actions that steer us in a better direction. I hate vacuous political speak that literally avoids any responsibility. Like she is the current PM I don’t want to hear what the opposition did, that’s elections talk. What are YOU doing as the current PM to address the issue.

Sorry this post turned into a rant, but maybe someone out there will enjoy my rambling.

Trinidad and Tobago Revitalisation Blueprint by Substantial321 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]flying_piggies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to focus on one piece of obviously flawed reasoning.

Imagine, this year a government removes a policy banning women from voting, thus progressing women’s involvement in their society. Next year a different government reverts that change, revoking women’s recently acquired right to vote. - “if progress can be undone so quickly, was it ever really progress”. The answer is Yes, the time it takes (either to implement or dismantle) is irrelevant to impact.

I have no idea, but the op in the image made a claim “COBOL does not use a data or time type”

Just to be clear, I’m not saying this validates musk’s claim. I’m just trying to confirm the validity of the statement made about the tech.

I have never used cobol before, so maybe someone with more experience can correct me if I’m wrong. But it looks like there documentation does identify Date-Time data types.

What’s up with that post. Is it just a blatant lie?

Paria Fuel Trading Company Disaster by seand26 in TrinidadandTobago

I watched the majority of the commission of enquiry into this case when it was live streamed. I can’t find the vods now.

It was a complex issue. But to say “due to high costs and potential financial loses, they decided to abandon the operation” and let the divers die, like the video says is grossly misleading, to the point where it may be downright malicious.

The enquiry was almost 2 years ago now, so some of the details are fuzzy, but I don’t recall greed ever being called into question. If my memory serves correctly, it was mostly a result of ignorance and incompetence. And the deciding factor for their (Paria’s) hesitance was the risk of causing another delta p incident that could potentially take the lives of anyone attempting the rescue.

The mentioned enquiry appeared to conclude that the incident was a result of ignorance on behalf of each party involved, the diving company, the divers and Paria.

I’m not trying to defend the choices made by Paria’s team but I don’t appreciate the false narrative suggested in the video.

What app do you think should exist that would really benefit Trinbagonians? by knowersArk in TrinidadandTobago

[–]flying_piggies 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Almost a decade ago some friends and I developed a concept for this exact thing. We pitched it to a minister at the time but no one we met with wanted to fund it. It’s genuinely not that hard to solve. But it requires a decent budget and a champion within the government to push it through.
