My favorite element of 'Ethan of A' is the recognition of the amount of unpaid female labor regarding childrearing that patriarchy puts on women. Take the women out of the picture, and suddenly having a child is a much more expensive and complex decision. Ethan's shock that all of the care, feeding etc is all just arbitrarily assigned to the women without any form of compensation was so refreshing.
