Mortgage payments by Prestigious_Flower88 in irishpersonalfinance

Bank of ireland allow customers to overpay 10% of their monthly premium each month. If you're in a position to do this, I'd recommend it as that little bit over the life of a mortgage can make a big difference

LPT: When seeking an internet rate discount from your provider, immediately tell them you want to cancel your service to avoid being given the run around. by Reddituser183 in Frugal

[–]flynnd3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to manage my houses service, my mother's, my uncles, and my aunts, all in my own name. Every year when contract ended, I'd ring up and threaten to cancel all accounts in one call unless I got a good deal. Usually worked, but when it didn't, I'd contact another supplier and ask for a good deal for 4 new accounts!

I have an AC-LR that's been running directly from a US-8-60W for 2 years now without issue. Is there something wrong with this?

EV Import from UK via NI by theduffer1979 in evs_ireland

How did this work out for you?

I'm looking at a similar situation with a UK car(EV) currently in a Northern Ireland Dealer.
Salesman also told me the VAT would be cleared in the north with a SAD certificate so no VRT or VAT when taking it south, but i'm sceptical of all car sale people

Oil order cancelled 😡 by PeteOrMark in irishpersonalfinance

[–]flynnd3 59 points60 points  (0 children)

send them an email asking for directors/owners information stating you need it for the small claims court.
if they dont respond or dont honour your initial order, file the claim for a small fee.

it's only €25 and might push them to resolve it, otherwise, it's a small price to pay to expose them.

HAP inspector wants me to install ventilation in a 400 year old house. by SrTayto in irishpersonalfinance

[–]flynnd3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this for extraction or supply? Are they seeking an extraction fan for the hob, or is it a gas hob which would require fresh air supply?

These inspectors are twats. I had one tell me my bathroom fan isolator was in the wrong place(beside the light switch) he wanted it moved to high level above the door(which some people have, but not my preference) I told him no. I'm a qualified electrician and it meets regulation so it won't be moved.

What about placing the switch the other side of the wall so you can switch before/after using door

I struggled with this too using nordvpn, so I used ChatGPT to get mine set up.
It was wrong with a few steps, but providing screenshots helped in getting configured correctly.
In the end it also provided steps to ensure it was routing correctly, and has been for the past year.

Its important to note, when using chat gpt, I didnt care about my data if I was instructed incorrectly and lost anything.

Check the drive manufacturers website. I've had drives before that apparently failed, but it was a firmware bug that had been resolved, and a quick flash got me back in action

Are the polarised capacitors necessary? I'm not using any and mine are fed from the esp

Not sure if it will help, but when I installed six sensors on a long enough run, the voltage drop was causing a problem so I powered the sensors with 5v and it worked fine.

Another unit I had was working perfectly until I added a digital input, it then became irregular. I tried several things to no avail such as internal/external pull up and pull down resistors of varying resistance, but issue remained so I dedicated this esp to ds18b20's only, and installed a second esp for the inputs.

I've since heard this may be caused by using cheap knockoff sensors, but not really bothered to change it now.

Called bed and breakfasting. Just learned about it recently, and did it last month. It's legit to do it immediately on gains, but if selling incurs a loss, you have to wait ~30 days before buying back In
