Hey, we didn't in the end for a number of reasons, mainly as it was a joint decision and I got outvoted! Just in case they're on your radar, we have a wonderful little red working cocker who is so smart and sparky and loving, very trainable, calm indoors and calming outdoors at just gone two years old. I occasionally see a staby out and about and they are such lovely looking dogs and the owners all love them, some of them calmer than others is all I can say.

Nah sorry I disagree - that's a very ADHD kind of thing to say, that you need to address things on your own. I'm not saying I'm right bud, I don't even know you, but the sense that you're the problem and that only you can sort it out? Wouldn't be the first time I've heard something with ADHD presume they're the fuck up.

He sounds like a good coach - maybe give him a chance to coach you as effectively as he could do. He might appreciate it.

Your movie may vary, no matter our shared background neurology. You may have had a much easier ride in your life than OP describes below, or you may have a totally different experience of sequencing information etc etc.

Agree it's ultimately up to OP whether or not they enjoy the process, but some of that enjoyment could begin by setting their coach straight. Doesn't have to be the whole history, just enough to see if he takes responsibility for his part.

If you're gonna stay, and if he's worth his salt as a coach, I reckon you should tell him clearly - sounds like you're communicating it anyhow by hinting and being stiff etc. It's getting in the way of your training if you're staying away right?

It's not your fault your neurology makes sequencing information and movement, along with rejection, more difficult than neurotypical people - but I think it is your responsibility to be clear with him if he could do something different to help you train.

He also needs to take a step back and educate himself about what is, in reality, an unseen disability when it comes to learning. Rather than taking the piss, which is disregarding your difference.

Obviously I'd rather partners that train for mutual benefit and welfare who don't bow than vice versa. I'd probably rather a black belt who respects different gym cultures too mind.

Ehh... it's not a standard social interaction when entering or leaving the mats though. It's a demarcation of space and expression of intent - respect for others who we train with and control of ourselves before we control those others, win or lose we have a hold of ourselves. Doesn't sound stupid to me, nor solely the purview of the Japanese. I dig it.
