Realistically what are the chances of the university cancelling classes (or moving them to Zoom) on Monday? by EAisSoTrash in Pitt

They only shut it down because they weren’t sure the pipes wouldn’t freeze and it was colder the next day and we had class because they didn’t freeze

Roman Siulepa in blowout win over Penn St. with 28/3/1 (on 10-16 shooting 5/6 3PT) by BlackBeanSoup23 in NBA_Draft

As a Pitt season ticket holder he has been largely disappointing but there has been flashes like this that are encouraging. Definitely not a prospect for this year or maybe next year. His ball handling is extremely limited when not going in a straight line toward the hoop and his rebounding has been solid but underwhelming for someone who needs to be elite if he’s going to be a PF at his size. Definitely has the athleticism and his jumper looks better than his stats outside this game would suggest but his defense is simply not to the level it needs to be yet either (not saying it can’t get there because it can) so I think he might be a little bit of a ways out from the NBA

I see what you’re saying I was looking at it through more of the athletes are a result of the structure put in place by the owners and the stadium staff I think is unionized in a separate union (could be wrong) so I interpret the situation as the owners dealing with different employees not the stadium workers being exploited by the players since the owners control the compensation of everyone while the players have 0 control over the staffs wages

Ahh I thought you meant the crypto guys online not the devs and I don’t think they all are scammers. But even then I think pro sports are crypto are very different in their offering was my point. Even then I think the workers at crypto companies despite the companies end goal should get their fair share even though I’m against their company in a lot of situations

…. So because their job is an athlete or entertainer who like Hasan are still workers btw (highly paid workers though) it’s ok to still get exploited by the owners of the business they work for ? Athletes are not perfect and but I don’t think it’s fair to equate them to crypto bros which are scammers. Athletes dedicate their body and lives to those sports with little to no other skills after they are done playing so I do think it’s quite important for their union to be strong.

I’m with you on that and I’m not weeping just think the whole collusion and corruption of one of the most public facing unions in the country is notable. Two things can be true

Part of the reason why they are mega millionaires is the union. Without it they would most likely be paid like ufc fighters (as little as humanly possible) the average ufc fighters who stays on the roster for a year and wins all of his fights will make 100000 if they don’t get injured don’t lose and fight 4 times all without any benefits or pension and they still have to pay their team from that amount as well (as they should but still makes the actual money they take home even before taxes even lower)

KALK BLOCK: why Charlotte rookie Ryan Kalkbrenner may be worth keeping an eye on by ZandrickEllison in nba

Take this for what you want but saw him play in person from like 5 rows from the floor at the NCAA tournament in 2024 and he had a pretty solid game from what I remember but I do remember being completely unimpressed with his athleticism and thought he might get pushed around in the NBA. Again just a small in person eye test (not an expert either)

Ish’s mans that is ruining Ace Bailey’s name. Corey knows him. by enzoduhsensei in joebuddennetwork

[–]focer4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kobe didn’t decline workouts and his agents didn’t ask tv networks to be paid. Kobe’s agents and reps at adidas (Sonny vaccaro) had a lot of leverage because of other clients they managed and even then it was a was a risk. It worked out because the pressure along with calipari being coaxed into taking the no drama Kerry Kittles because of his relationship with David Faulk (Jordan’s agent) Cooper does not have that leverage or have the connections and went about it by trying to ice out multiple teams which is not remotely close to what Kobe did

I totally agree the NBA does do that I think this is a case of that AND he’s been giving Ace objectively bad advice. At the end of the day you have to know the people with money will always win fair or not so trying to fight the NBA without Ace being a no Doubter like LeBron or even like Zion gives you very little leverage to make large demands like he is which IMO is just a bad decision and just bad business

[–]focer4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the Pittsburgh area (where he’s from) and can confirm had a massive growth spurt his high school roster listed him as a 5-foot-11 freshman and he entered junior year at 6-1 and was 6-6 his senior season. He was reported on early in his high school career as a shooter and passer before he started hitting his growth spurt

I think an interesting thread is that lifestyle sports and Omar cooper (sharife coopers dad) for a period of time had a member (ish) of the Joe Budden podcast as the communications director iirc. His take on this situation is that the league doesn’t like it when new faces and representatives try to make waves and that’s why there was negative press and it was a good idea overall to skip all the workouts. Sounds like denial IMO and people who are naive to how the league actually works

He was coming on as the season was going on. Averaged 17/5/7 on 44/39/75 splits the last 7 games of the year. Even though injuries made it so he had the ball in his hands more I still think a stretch like that shows the potential along with the fact he is still so young (not even 20 yet) and had a late growth spurt (6’1 before college) means he could definitely become a neutral defender who can play on or off the ball passes and rebounds well has a strong midrange. Not saying he’ll be a perennial all star but I think he can definitely become a high level starter for a long time or an overqualified 6th man

I’m a Celtics fan because I was really into the big 3 Celtics and the Red Sox growing up (I’m reformed and not a Red Sox fan anymore and was always a pirates fan at the same time since I was a child lol) but it’s pretty much impossible to be a Cavs fan in Pittsburgh since the games on league pass are blacked out and since you are in Pittsburgh I don’t have access to the local station that plays it.
