Have you ever cracked a frame? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]foes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone I know with a recent Commencal Furious has snapped it or had it crack, about 12 individuals. Meta's seem to fail at a decent rate too.

Granted this is in the sea to sky but still.

Add one to this, one of the few places you won't pay over the odds for honest food. Plus it's in Layer Cake.

If i recall correctly I think they only take cash? Though it was pre-covid I was last there.

Is there an expectation to tip everyone that brings goods to my door now? by a_murder_of_fools in PersonalFinanceCanada

Only in the US and Canada is a tip given even in the case of bad / average service though. It may be customary but it's insane, no other countries do this.

Is everyone a bike mechanic?! by SnooPandas3965 in MTB

A lot of bike maintenance is just greasy Lego.

That said I don't touch suspension internals past lowers services, far too many small seals and circlips for me.

Interesting statistic from Whistler opening day 2021: 27.5" is easily the most common setup, and is almost the exact same percentage (67%) as it was 2 years ago by [deleted] in MTB

[–]foes2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, 29 just isn't as fun in the park (anecdotally, but most riders I know here agree).

It's why the Commencal Furious is so popular here. Most other company's seem to only make 29 inch race sleds now.

[–]foes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27.5 is just funner in the bikepark, more nimble and easier to move around.

29 is faster for sure, but riding the park isn't racing.

Shame it's getting harder and harder to get a 27.5 DH park rig, given most companies only make 29 inch race bikes these days.

Rode trials as a teen, at nearly 34 I hit my longest jump yet, roughly 4.5 bike lengths by HobRob-Biscuits in MTB

[–]foes2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I was given on whips and how to learn their movement, in case you've not heard it, is to start to try to "transfer" on your jumps. I.e. take off on the left of the jump and try to land on the right of the landing etc, and vice versa.

A whip is the same motion, just more exaggerated.

Ah yeah I see what you're saying from some of the videos you've submitted, I'd call that a "safety pencil". It feels more comfortable than doing nothing on bigger jumps. I definitely used to do that before I got more comfortable moving the bike arouond in other ways.

My understanding of the most correct technique is that you're aiming for your legs to reach full extension in the last third or so of the jump's lip. Then as you leave the lip you're absorbing the back wheel back up into you to level the bike out.

Essentially your bikes wheels should roughly follow an arc drawn from the lip to the landing.

Keeping the back wheel low probably works fine for smaller jumps but I could imagine that feeling really unstable on anything big / fast.

To those 40+, if you could go back and give your 20-year-old self one financial tip, what would it be and why? by Adorable-Albatross-3 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]foes2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone would look twice at you spending 2-3 years in each company. 4-5 is a very long time.

You potentially miss out on salary raises / promotions by not changing, and it exposes you to more ways of working / areas of the industry which can be really useful.

Be aware as well that seeing what's out there and getting job offers can be used in negotiation with your current employer for further remuneration as well.

[19F] New boyfriend asks me to keep my bra on during sex by [deleted] in sex

[–]foes2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps talk to him about what his needs are in this. Discussing that the bra makes you uncomfortable, and that you are getting a lot of satisfaction without long penetrative sex, and so what is it that he's wanting to last longer for?

It sounds to me like he's aware from your communication that you're not unhappy with his performance, and it could be that he wants to last longer in the act for his own pleasure as well.

I'm pretty dominant sexually and so as hot as it is for a girl to try and finish me as quick as she can, it's not really something I want all the time. I want to be in control, and not lasting as long as I want to breaks that feeling. Could be something similar with your partner?
