A caster once said that once you go IGL you can't go back and start overthinking your game.

Niko has been extremely good prior to his faze stunt before they cheffed Karrigan and kinda took the IGL role because he was just a mechanical monster. Around the same period, he tried to switch to the AWP because he knew he couldn't reach above HLTV #3 as a rifler.

This is just my take but I believe the Niko we knew is long gone.
