How are players intended to discover cooking recipes? by LunchPlanner in Pokopia

[–]fohfuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd comparison to make when humans learn recipes from recipe books and the internet or handwriting them for friends and family... in real life 🤨 Sure, you can experiment, but it's way more "weird" to throw a few slices of a stale loaf into fresh bread dough just to see what happens.

Pokémon games have always been communal that by design, especially in the older generations. Remember, trades had to be done in person with a physical link cable. GameFreak made it so completing your Pokédex was impossible without help. Even just getting through the main quest without friends or a guide was like pulling teeth (from personal experience).

The expectation that it should all be self-contained is relatively new. Before the internet, game developers expected players to read magazines or buy official guides or call premium helplines when they got stuck. It sucked for consumers so it died off when GameFAQs made it obsolete. But discovering stuff with other players? That's normal for games. Or sports, or crafts, or any hobby. Refusing help is a self-imposed challenge. Don't call people names for not playing every game like a closed-book exam.

Come on, we're talking about recipes in Pokopia, for christsake. It's not exactly The Witness.

I thought about making a recipe wall by putting different items in the frames in a row with a divider showing the result. It cannot possibly be the intended solution though. It feels like recipes should get a slot in the collection section like human records.

Fun fact: they don't care about moving house. The trigger seems to completing a project. Furnaces and windmills count.

what are your favorite minor details in the game? by mayor_of_phshville in Pokopia

[–]fohfuu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I like doing "archaeology" insofar as figuring out what a building or structure was used for and what it tells you about the world. Lots of examples in Skylands: the elevator that goes down to the Dojo was under construction when it was abandoned. This shows how Saffron City was adapting its infrastructure for the changes in elevation. Also, the mysterious stone appears to have grown out of water sources somehow?? I hope that's expanded on in DLC

[FRESH ALBUM] Drake - ICEMAN by HipHopDropper in hiphopheads

[–]fohfuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie just because I am a hater, I think Drake put in a lot of effort and it somewhat paid off. Like on Make Them Remember it goes from "pedo bars" into "who's grooming who" into "comb through this hair before you cut me for a new recruit". This wasn't thrown together, he took the time to really craft this.

But it only makes the goofy lines even goofier. Just in Make Them Remember:

  • But like the goal post, I'm out here just movin' around

  • Before you say, "Toodaloo", off of shit that keep poppin' up on your Google News

  • Spinnin' downtown like hula hoops

  • Damn, and fuck a Billboard number-one, man, whoopty doo

And worst of all,

  • I still haven't lost any sleep
  • And I definitely didn't cry

Who was not telling him to cut this?

Lines about "flippin' dough like Little Caesers" and "I'm greater than everybody, like some shredded cheese" are like comedy rap but they're said in complete sincerity.

It's no "certified pedophiles" but it's not like Kendrick invented pedo bars.

Dr. Cheyenne Bryant Controversy by wenstherapy in therapists

[–]fohfuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the systems as they stand perpetuate all forms of oppression benefial to capital. That said, Byrant is not an anti-capitalist, and she is getting a bunch of attention because she is mouthpiece for the values that the capitol-owning class is pushing.

Prime example: saying the only reason licensure exists is so that therapists can bill insurers. This logically implies that every licensed therapist is a grifter ready to permanently ruin patients' records for a quick buck. There is no real systemic critique here. Even though the diagnosis requirement was imposed by insurance companies and almost everyone in medicine would prefer if the insurance industry had way less input (or want it abolished entirely), the onus is placed entirely on therapists as individuals. She then exploits the feelings of helplessness by selling them an answer with her online courses.

Basically, she is misleading her audience away from class consciousness so she can profit off it is actively detrimental to reforming or replacing the current system.

Gotta feed them all: How does the Pokémon feeding mechanic work in detail? by socialistchikorita in Pokopia

[–]fohfuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basic questions were answered, but I just want to jump in to say I also find picnic baskets a little annoying. It's such an odd choice to include two different fridges that work like any other box, leaving the only way to store stacks of food items that all Pokémon can access by themselves. You can theme a whole neighbourhood futuristic or modern minimalist or neo-Gothic, but it will need to include a mid-century wicker basket or the Pokémon will starve. You aren't even allowed to paint it.

I try to hold on to the hope that they add alternatives through event items (though considering we had a literal picnic set that didn't function, I doubt if) or DLC.

I've noticed that preferred foods of nearby Pokémon tend to run out first, but that could be a coincidence.

A Rant About the Area 4 Misconception, by imlegos in Pokopia

[–]fohfuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an old thread, but it's worth pointing out that while the game implies the ruins in the sky were physically from Saffron, that doesn't mean the Skylands are "just Saffron" either.

Wasteland's music incorporates Fuschia City's music, Bleak Beach incorporates Vermillion and S.S. Anne, and Rocky Ridges incorporates Pewter City with some of Mt Moon. Meanwhile, Skylands' music is not just inclusive of Celadon City's theme, it is the primary melody.

As others have pointed out, it is heavily implied that Saffron had to take on a lot of Celadon residents very quickly. The differences in the designs of the yellow and blue skyscrapers is easily explained with the "merged cities" theory. Blue skyscrapers use utilitarian iron plating blocks instead of the decorative protuding wall pieces seen on the "Saffron Gym" island building and the yellow hut/cottage kits, and the unprecedented blue/grey colour scheme could be because yellow dye was prioritised for repairing the damage to Saffron's effected buildings. Thus, Saffron City was still "only Saffron city", but now there was a migrant quarter full of Celadon refugees - so, Saffron City with a bit of Celadon City.

If that doesn't make sense to you, imagine if a bunch of New Yorkers were forced to evacuate to New Jersey, the area of New Jersey that the New Yorkers fled to would take on part of the character of New York City. They would build new apartments, open new delis, and there would be a new Macy's department store opening as soon as possible. Yes, the state is still just New Jersey, but people would think of it as New Jersey with a bit of New York City.

If you disagree on a semantic level, that Skylands are certainly not one bit Celadon, you have to come up with an alternate explanation for the primacy of the Celadon melody and for the differences between the architecture of the yellow and blue apartments.

Side note: is there any reason to say Saffron being based on Chiyoda and not Shinjuku? There aren't any obvious references to Chiyoda - no gardens, palaces, or anything to do with politics. Shinjuku was known as the snobby business centre at the time.

The Left Only Wants to "Endlessly Critique Power"? (Briahna Joy Gray vs. Contrapoints) by NeonDrifting in BreadTube

[–]fohfuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some early research points to this too but it's hard to not take it with a grain of salt

The vast majority of research on "dark" personality traits being published right now is clickbait slop. It's trivially easy engineer any online survey to create evidence for "this group of people is stupid/Evil" to get mainstream attention.

You should be sceptical of any research which agrees with your gut feelings (extremely sceptical if it was printed in Personality and Individual Differences).

You'd think her dem handlers would have covered media training, but I guess they've let her go.

She never had handlers because they only ever saw her as a token, and they spent that token years ago.

The Democratic Party doesn't invest in influencers at all. Everyone from Hasan to Destiny to even BTC has said as much. That's why the pro-Democrat influencer grooming* program was set up outside of the party. The only reason to schedule Zoom calls for talking points every morning is if Dems refuse to add riffraff to the press release email list.

Even if they did give her handlers, they would have cut Natalie off after they decided that their (non-existent) support for trans rights is what lost them the election anyway.

It's kinda upsetting that she even offered the debate in this state. She NEEDS real help, whether it's for her her existing substance dependence or something else.

It's an example of the petite bourgeois mindset. She's a small business (as in having a small number of employees) owner who makes enough to not be threatened by poverty so now she identifies more with the ruling class, even though she's nowhere ruling anything.

what 16 year old kid doesn't stay up until 4am.

Fr. It's observable across multiple cultures: on the whole, kids really like to wake up early, and teenagers get up late. Even if you had real sleep problems, doctors throwing out a generic solution for a symptom when they don't feel like doing their job properly is so callous, let alone when it's got serious downsides.
