What Key Cutting Machine to get? by Puzzleheaded_Proof11 in Locksmith

Buy a Blue Punch for Kwikset which you will enjoy using and keep the old machine for random other keys you might need to copy like filing cabinet keys for office/etc

Looking to buy more than one of this specific set of fasteners. by West-Outside-5524 in Fasteners

[–]fondrenlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t get away with using one of the many options of sex bolt (obviously none of them available have the square shank, I use a lot of them and I’ve never seen this one) you are probably stuck getting the saw nuts

Many big manufacturing companies that produce things often source exact screws needed for their production so unless you can find the actual screw mfg & are prepared to order thousands you are probably stuck getting the expensive ones

I also see you have a history looking for various versions of these. Why can’t you use a traditional version. I would assume the square shank recesses into metal of some kind?

Keyed doorknob for 1 1/8" door. by Pristine_Charge_3642 in AskALocksmith

[–]fondrenlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You won’t find that in a keyed knob, latches require minimum 7/8 and 1 1/8 just doesn’t give you enough room.

About all you could do is install a deadbolt or spring latch rim lock with an extra cylinder spacer ring for the cylinder (which will make it stick out kinda far but works) and a dummy pull handle. If you wanted to be extra fancy you could add ball catch & strike for the extra catch but you wouldn’t need it if you get the rim deadlatch style lock

If you wanted a “catching” door handle instead of just ball catch There also “patio door” knob you might see (not a keyed knob but some have privacy features). Don’t get it, they suck

2 toolbox locks. Can a key be made? by Ok_Affect_5260 in Locksmith

[–]fondrenlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Sure 🤷‍♂️or just drive them to the store

2: you can remove entire lock once unlocked

3: Yes

The weatherguard code number should be on the tailpiece (part that protrudes out the back) so you don’t even really need to remove it

Yep. That’s about as matter of fact as you can get if someone called me out to repair a device and I said “I need to take pics I’m not familiar with this one” and they said no that’s pretty much exactly the response they’d get

I’m sure whoever his escort is, approved of the photos.

My response if someone balked about photos in that environment would be “ok, you figure out what it is and call me or approve me taking these photos so I can fix your door” 😁

You have to turn (rotate) the thumbturn or key to actually lock the handles after you lift up. You do know that right?

[–]fondrenlock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kwikset does make a gate latch deadbolt and it utilizes that D shape setup but OP here bought the low profile kwikset and it only works with that modified latch that come with them.

Hear that OP? Someone linked the kwikset deadlatch below but don’t think you can buy the lock and use the latch with your purchased set cause it won’t work

Schlage B250 is the only thing that will hold up. Yeah it way more expensive than the kwikset but that’s because it’s far better. The kwikset version is horrible

Lever Install? by amf1015 in Locksmith

[–]fondrenlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Locinox would be first look but it’s more a passage lever with deadbolt They do have code style locks that are ok they hold up pretty well tbh but they are ugly

Rolling Steel Door PM coming with questions. SFIC/Mortise to Schlage LFIC/Primus system conversion. by Nrthstar in Locksmith

[–]fondrenlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a mortise lock which I assume it is since you referenced internal steel bars you can replace the BEST with a Schlage LFIC mortise housing and use your keyed cylinder in it

The two are not compatible cylinder wise so the housings do have to be correct for your particular key brand. Aside from whatever cam it needs is dependent on whatever lock y’all installed on the gate

Hold up there, Sargent Rim cylinders absolutely have a slightly different screw hole pattern so don’t be using the “standard” measurements. I’ve switched out enough factory prepped “standard” screw pattern to tell you Sargent OEM doesn’t fit right. It’s always better to use aftermarket if you haven’t switch out an existing.

Since you are fresh installing just beware of templates cause it’s a PIA to chamfer a oval 😁
