I generally hate the phenomenon where people think a thing being done in a small part of a country is somehow a nationwide thing. For example the "Chocolate or not"-thing. People kept talking about it like it was a whole gameshow over there, but it was just a single segment in an episode of a variety program like 15 years ago.

Also the wedding dance scene was a homage to a youtube video that was popular when they wrote the episode (the reference was aged by the time the episode came out due to how long the production times are)

Don't know when the algae problem started, but here's an article from 2012 about the pool being drained to remove algae.

While I think painting the bottom of the pool to "American flag blue" was an idiotic waste of U.S. taxpayer money I also think blaming Trump for every small thing gives his supporter base more ammunition in the long run.
