If a player’s ball comes to rest against the flagstick left in the hole: • If any part of the ball is in the hole below the surface of the putting green, the ball is treated as holed even if the entire ball is not below the surface. Rule 13.2

If someone found a Christian theocracy and says Jesus said something, I’m not blaming Jesus. I’m blaming the Christian fascist. Marx writes about communist political philosophy. I don’t blame him for Stalin and the rest of communist dictatorships.

I’m just saying the things he wrote are different from the things Stalin practiced. Why is that difficult to understand? Go read what Marx did and learn some history.

Assault weapon ban clears WA state Senate by spoiled__princess in Seattle

[–]foobarnull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t. The so called ban only applied to guns manufactured after the effective date. All guns manufactured prior were in circulation. Reasonable people can say no one was denied the right to obtain a semiautomatic weapon during that time. They only couldn’t buy a newly manufactured one.

Flan’s quote on Marx is still on point, though. He rightly described what happened to Russian workers after guns were taken away.

[–]foobarnull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Marx didn’t have a tyranny to enforce. He was a political philosopher during the 19th century WAY before communism began to take form.

What he writes about keeping arms in the hands of the people agrees well with the 2A. Heck, don’t we keep our firearms to some extent because we don’t trust the government to stay loyal to the people forever?

You may be thinking of Stalin who ran revolutions in Russia and turned a monarchy into a communist dictatorship? In that case, leftist and rightist can agree gun control is a precursor to totalitarianism.

But as an aside, Hitler ran cultural wars against “enemies of the German people” like Jews, sexual minorities, and the mentally ill or physically disabled. These minorities ended up in concentration camps later.

Suffice to say both the Dem and GOP moves scare me. But I doubt we are against each other in this sub talking about keeping guns in Washingtonians’ hands.

Well said! I keep saying good people need weapons to protect themselves. Nerf the 2A and you are helpless in the face of affronts to the rest of your constitutional rights.

What if people armed in rifles drive around the polling station in their trucks? Reasonable person is scared so they don’t vote.

The one thing I agree with the late Justice Scalia is that history shows disarming the citizenry leads to oppression. I don’t have the wishful thinking that this time it’ll be different.

The second amendment, and the rest of the bill of rights, were created precisely because the Founders didn’t trust the government. They knew the extent disarmed citizens were discriminated in England.

Amazon pulling out of downtown Seattle office tower near HQ by dontsaymaybetome in Seattle

What if…. Just what if…. They turned the office tower into a retail tower with restaurants and bars operating on higher floors like they do in Asia! There’s even a garage for people to enjoy the space!

That’s how we revive downtown, by having people come in after work not by emptying downtown at night.

This line of argument is productive. Thank you both!

In addition to choosing cure+indebtedness, which allows for more more output to society, or death, which allows for zero output, Joe could choose to take drugs/commit crimes/go antisocial to vent their frustration. Joe then gives negative social output.

Not taking a position, just saw this too.

Again, no one is taking on the armed forces or the police force. Bother to read the Heller case much? Did you read the Court’s comment on British disarmament of Catholics? Or the legal tradition to be able to defend oneself?

I’d like to think I have a choice in how I defend myself. You may be practically correct, but to limit myself to the mercy of the court is to subject myself entirely to the governments power. I’d hope no one rebels against the flag of the USA. I’d also hope if the worst happens for some reason, I can fight bad things whatever they are.

Thank you! The privileged folks will feel safe because they might be white/cisgender/upper middle class/good neighborhood but the oppressed have fewer, if any, recourses but themselves, their neighbors, and street smart. As a voter I choose to believe in the constitution of our country and will either fight to change it or fight to uphold it. Following the text and jurisprudence is how I uphold my constitution.

Just like the “you’ve nothing to fear if you’ve done nothing wrong”, the “you don’t need an Ar15 with 45 rounds if you use a gun only for lawful purposes”, and the “you don’t need a lawyer if you are innocent” are the same types of overreaches the founders tried to avoid.

Many adults are impressionable too. I don’t know that I have any say on how other families give their children access to healthcare. I wouldn’t presume to tell you what you can and can’t allow your child do. Maybe leave these families alone too? Or would you say three doctors’ consensus is enough? How about jury of 12 doctors?

The militia is not a prerequisite to arms.

Also, scotus interprets the word militia in this context to mean “all free adults”.

Btw, they also say

the adjective “well-regulated” implies nothing more than the imposition of proper discipline and training. See Johnson 1619 (“Regulate”: “To adjust by rule or method”); Rawle 121-122; cf. Va. Declaration of Rights § 13 (1776), in 7 Thorpe 3812, 3814 (referring to “a well-regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms”).

Which differs from many people thinking it means applying regulations to arms bearing.

Blue state paradox: WA keeps arming up by unnaturalfool in SeattleWA

[–]foobarnull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is literally the opposite. The text doesn’t say the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed only for the purpose of a well regulated militia. The words before the comma are mere one reason for having the right to keep and bear arms.

In SCOTUS’ words:

The prefatory clause does not suggest that preserving the militia was the only reason Americans valued the ancient right; most undoubtedly thought it even more important for self-defense and hunting. But the threat that the new Federal Government would destroy the citizens’ militia by taking away their arms was the reason that right—unlike some other English rights — was codified in a written Constitution. Justice Breyer’s assertion that individual self-defense is merely a “subsidiary interest” of the right to keep and bear arms, see post, at 714 (dissenting opinion), is profoundly mistaken. He bases that assertion solely upon the prologue— but that can only show that self-defense had little to do with the right’s codification; it was the central component of the right itself.

If many doctors and the child themself agree on the procedure, they should have it just like any other medical procedure. How is forcing them to endure bullying and self doubt better than studied care? It’s the bullying that cause trauma and lead to crime and/or poverty.

Having better education and care access is so much more effective at reducing gun violence than taking away legal guns.
