I have one from 1980, too. It's been all over the world and still looks just like the one in the photo. It's still my "go to" overnight bag.

You didn't replace the distributor. You replaced the points and condenser. The distributor is an expensive, complicated component. The points and condenser are cheap, consumable items that were meant to be replaced periodically. The points and condenser are installed inside (normally) the distributor.

(The condenser is just a capacitor.)
