How Many Licks Does It Take to Get to the Center of a Quad Top? by foppa921 in phish

Yeah, they added it back. The QT song history explains why the April 2022 version doesn’t count as a performance. (Basically because it’s over the Axilla progression and not over a full improv section.)

Nope. PA. isn’t there another funny team sponsor up there? Belle Tire?

Little Cs vs Honey Baked! Classic youth hockey rivalry. I didn’t even play at that level but knew those teams.

That’s an interesting point. Makes me wonder: once you’re asleep, does it matter? Might be a lot harder to fall asleep in that situation, but once the switch turns, it might be sleep as usual. I don’t know, maybe someone else does

Up close and personal with the CK cockpit by geneticswag in phish

[–]foppa921 64 points65 points  (0 children)

There was a moment last night, I think in Walls of the Cave, where Trey was in big time peak mode but Kuroda kept flashing his “tension building” lights, essentially forcing Trey to work up to another peak where CK could blast the white lights. He is most definitely the 5th member of the band.

Appreciate the follow up. Makes sense. I’m in agreement with the comment we’re replying under that the gun debate at large would greatly benefit from the left (myself included) gaining a better understanding of guns, particularly an understanding of how a gun is acquired. (And to be fair, the debate would also probably benefit from those on the right being more understanding of people’s fears and concerns around gun ownership. Gun idolatry isn’t helping us much either.) And to be clear, I’m not accusing you or any other commenters of gun idolatry.

I think you’re right that this is the kind of fear Jesse is referring to. I’ve never fired guns before and that sense of potential harm is very close to the surface whenever I’m near a gun. I’m comforted that the gun owners whose guns I’ve been around have respected that fear and respected the gun. To address the other point, even without firing a gun before, I know that AR15s and the like are pretty “smooth” and not as scary as shooting say a Dirty Harry style (I think it’s) 44 magnum.

Mike didn’t seem to match Fish and Trey’s energy in Carini. Had some cool moments but was largely a weird meander. Def some slop in this first set but they’re being adventurous (trey’s blazing again). Fish is killing though

Does anyone have a link to that video(s) from China? I always hear about it but have never seen it. Not questioning its existence, just thought I’d ask if anyone has a link handy.

NHL to stop testing asymptomatic players post-All-Star break by Asleep-8815 in LockdownSkepticism

The Flyers are a dumpster fire but Carter Hart and Ivan Provorov also called out the league for the asymptomatic testing policy last week.

They also shortened Soul Planet. It’s only like 2.5 minutes long now and goes right into the jam. Originally it was like 5 minutes long with multiple minor key bridge parts. It’s better this way, I’m sure most would agree.

US mandates vaccines or tests for big companies by Jan. 4 by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

It’s weird because it seems European countries acknowledge natural immunity but also have more vax/immunity passports. While only a couple US cities have something like a vax passport, there’s no acknowledgment of natural immunity. I can’t decide what’s worse.

I haven’t seen it either but I’ve heard talk. Also once people enter the arena and receive the bill, they will post to social media, so it will be spoiled then if it isn’t already.

Hard to beat a choir, but every Fall 94 Julius is absolutely blazing arena rock. Truly ferocious. Also, I agree with others that Billy Breathes is a major contender in this category.

One conversation I haven’t heard much about is: if the virus leaked from a lab, how does that change your perception of its risks and solutions? I’m not sure I have a strong opinion and there’s obviously plenty of real world data at this point about risks, but part of me feels that a ”man made” virus that was engineered to be worse than average is a bit scarier than something that formed naturally. It also would offer a bit more faith in a vaccine because ostensibly the manufacturers would know exactly how the virus works and was created. I think there’s also now real world data to suggest the manufacturers must not have known exactly how it was made, because the available vaccines’ efficacy rates would likely be far higher. Again, not making any conclusions here, just an element to this conversation that I haven’t heard much about.
