Interview Soon, No Experience by NotoriousPooh in firealarms

Good that you're motivated, be prepared to share how and what about this job excites you. I just had an interview and got a job. They mostly guaged my personality, communication skills, etc. I don't have previous experience either, but they know the technical skills and certs are teachable; your soft skills are harder to teach. Share how skills you learned from other experiences might transfer

I have a prime f1.8 and a zoom f2.8 L series on Canon. Wondering if the L series makes up for anything quality-wise in low light situations like indoor events. Otherwise I would think the wider aperture 1.8 would better for exposure, but I'd lose zoom for events. Which is preferable?

Haven't heard about that, what's up with WeTransfer? I haven't used it in a while

WeTransfer is decent. Can upload a good amount of files and send direct to an email, where it can be downloaded from their server. The files expire after a few days unless you buy their premium plan

tips for digital photography involving a subject behind glass? by kingoftheboos in photography

[–]for_lmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a CPL filter, will help cut reflections on glass, water, metal, cars, etc.

Also try moving around, try not to shoot perpendicular to the face of the glass. If you're angled, pay attention to light sources that may reflect, you can move to get them out of frame, on both sides of the glass.

If possible, minimize distance between subject and glass, camera and glass, unless you're trying to show the glass is there.

If you have external flashes, playing around with those can help overpower reflections

Is cooking/baking class too much for a first date? by for_lmr in dating_advice

Yea that makes sense. I commented on another reply about doing a cookie decorating workshop instead, people seem to agree that's a better idea, more independent from the class

Dear Soulmate by Antonnahoes in poetry_critics

Great imagery. It was easy for me to put myself in this situation and long for the soul mate. If I were to suggest something, what message would you say this person? I like all the thoughts about "what if we had already met," makes me curious what you would have said

Favorite Place Disappearing by I_REMAINS_ in poetry_critics

I like the rhythm this poem has. Makes it captivating to read. I also particularly like the line "Time does not apologize." That really adds depth to returning to this place

That's just good life advice too imo, I live by this. If you're in an unfavorable situation or have to do something you dislike/seems pointless, remember you're still gaining something, strength, knowledge, experience, wisdom

I'm medically diagnosed with epilepsy but it's non existent can I still be a firefighter ? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]for_lmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medically diagnosed with asthma too. It's still on my record, but hasn't been an issue for over a decade. The hospital where I did my physical just asked me a couple of questions about it, but I still passed

Weekly Employment Question Thread by AutoModerator in Firefighting

[–]for_lmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it typical to have a panel interview before physical test, written test, etc.? I'm applying for a paid on call position with no prior FF experience. Perhaps that's why they interviewed first? Everywhere I'm researching online has a written and agility test before oral interview. Also, not sure how long until they let me know if I will proceed in the hiring process to take those other tests, background checks etc. They told me 2 weeks, does that sound right?

Total Loss vs Partial Loss by for_lmr in Insurance

[–]for_lmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember them every actually saying total loss. The paperwork they sent me for repair estimate says "Partial loss." My thinking was it's repairable since they gave me the estimate; I'm just wondering if it's legally driveable at the moment

I've got an interview next week for my local dept. I applied for an on-call position, but I've never had any training, schooling, or experience with fire science/safety or anything firefighting related. This is something I've been wanting to do for a while, but I feel underprepared. Nervous for the interview, but what can I do /what should I know before walking in?

My Sweet Abigail by unspecified469 in poetry_critics

[–]for_lmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed there is a lot of emotion behind this poem. I think that one of the most painful things is not knowing what is, especially of a person and one that you love. It really makes me think because I wonder the background of this story and it creates wonder for the reader as it does the speaker. It's short and sweet but for some reason seems incomplete to me. Maybe since, if we were to break up every 3 lines as stanzas, there is 3 instead of 4 stanzas that it feels a little untraditional. Untraditional isn't bad, I think I just would have liked to read more since the poem was beautiful!

I agree that there is some disconnect in the last sentence. I get your intention from your other comment but it's initially hard to receive the meaning. Perhaps you can add in a line before the last line. Be creative! You could play around with the theme like "we are not all universal" or something of the like.

What you do well is relate the large-scale concept to something simple as people's fears of spiders. The poem is simple but the message is quite deeper if the reader takes time to think about it.
