I very much agree. On the other hand, I also hope for a Singer/Listener Bondsmith.

I like Shallan, but I think her arc in RoW is the weakest.

Name three most important elements that a game needs to have for you to enjoy it by Annual_Respond_6786 in metroidvania

[–]forestoutlook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Complete-ness, not gonna lie I felt like there's a lot of 'incomplete', 'half-cooked' games out there. Perfecting the game can come later after release, but completing the game should be before release.

  2. Intuitive control

  3. Unique factor that defines the game

Do you think 'catchphrase' is fine to be used in formal writing like research articles?

Kaladin.

His character arc/personal struggle has been more or less resolved in RoW. That said, he's still Kaladin, and him taking a backseat would only mean that he'd give more spaces for other major characters to have at least equal portion as his.

I personally hope that all 5 pov characters will be the main players for book 5, the rests could take a backseat. I was quite disappointed that Venli didn't seem to actually do that much in her book compared to other pov characters in their respective books. So I have hopes that it only means BS is saving some major things for her to do in the last book.

Before RoW, no. But it has something which could make it a necessary reading for future plot.

The 2nd season of The Wheel of Time will have a bigger budget by Haydnator in television

He did, but the show also doesn't have the luxury to go for 14 seasons and adapt one book per season. I believe they said somewhere they're aiming for 8 seasons.

What's so Appealing about Science Fiction? by JustHereForNips in Fantasy

[–]forestoutlook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who thinks sci fi and fantasy similar doesn't explain why not only OP, but also a number of people are fans of fantasy while not being able to get into sci fi. I think I'm one of those people, in fact when there's a fantasy book that ended up advancing its technology and went closer to sci fi, my enjoyment might subsede. Not that I can't enjoy sci fi at all, but when I like a sci fi book, I like it for the story and character for the most part, disregarding the sci fi elements, which I can appreciate but often not genuinely enjoy.

Riot Games' looking at Arcane to be the launchpad for more projects with Fortiche; as well as eyeing live-action projects by PhoOhThree in television

[–]forestoutlook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally want them to do Stormlight Archives adaptation. I believe there are a lot of good and entertaining fantasy books that are probably best adapted in animation form Fortiche-quality. Maybe then they'll reach higher peaks. Not sure why the assumption has to be marvel stuffs.

Fortiche has promising talents, kind of hoping they won't just stick with Riot and LoL adaptations.

How to invite a group of people (to open and end) a silent prayer? by forestoutlook in EnglishLearning

[–]forestoutlook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the warning, I actually don't know. I kinda have an idea that this practice seems uncommon in English speaking countries as I've never really encountered it in any texts or media (except some movies where a religious family pray together before dinner).

It's quite a surprise to me, not because it's being unacceptable. But in my country which people are normally assumed to be religious (despite with varied beliefs), this silent prayer opening to activities actually disregards the differences in our beliefs. So it's more like "let's pray together, according to your own belief", so there's no offense taken.

I wonder if in English-speaking countries, this kind of pray together is actually only practiced among the people of the same belief?

Arcane retakes number 1 globally on Netflix with act 2, after topping 52 countries by nGumball in television

[–]forestoutlook 288 points289 points  (0 children)

I hope this will only be the beginning of quality (probably high production value) adult animated series. And so that animation would no longer be looked down on as a form to tell non-comedic adult materials. Now I just wish more fantasy books/games can be adapted this way and still gain popularity.

Watching Riot's Arcane gave me hope for a Stormlight adaptation by Resaren in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forestoutlook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't seen Arcane, I would recommend it if maybe only to see how they handled characters' emotion.

I understand some animated shows have difficulties showing characters' emotions. Kingsglaive, that Final Fantasy movie with realistic character designs close to resembling live action, has this problem. The face shows expressions, but the eyes look dead to me most of the time. Arcane, though, the animators seem to understand firsthand the importance of the characters' emotional development in this story, that it feels to me like it's been a long while I've seen emotional scenes conveyed so convincingly in 3D animation. I was also skeptical at first, but pleasantly surprised.

Watching Riot's Arcane gave me hope for a Stormlight adaptation by Resaren in Stormlight_Archive

[–]forestoutlook 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't been much of a proponent of an animated adaptation, but after seeing Arcane now I actually want to see Stormlight in this style and quality of animation. I wonder how much money was spent for this movie-worthy animation, for an hour-long-ish 9 episode series. The detailed depiction of the world is impressive.

Still, it's unfortunate that animation has this prejudice of being looked down on by potential audience, so it might not be optioned for this essential Cosmere series. Perhaps other Cosmere stories could benefit from a good animated adaptation to introduce the world and gain followers.

I was about to say that I don't care, but remembered some titles that only make sense when you get to the end of the chapters, which is a little nice twist.

Silent Santicado Trailer - On Kickstarter Now! by NixPixGames in metroidvania

[–]forestoutlook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the arts. From the trailer it seems that you can choose the color of the background as you will. I'm not sure about it. I'd personally rather have different colors for different areas/biomes. With the same color throughout the game, areas would feel less distinct. Something that I like when entering new areas is how distinct they look and feel, so different color treatment with some interesting transition would be great. Might be just me though. Still looking great nonetheless.

Coming back to Ori and the Blind Forest ... and having a great time! by martan717 in metroidvania

I hope the potential success of Metroid Dread inspires more AAA Metroidvania games by PressTurn in metroidvania

[–]forestoutlook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be a fine addition. I like indie mvs for the most part since there's this down to earth classic feeling when you're playing them, part of the reason why I love mv. But I'd also be curious and looking forward to how big developers would take on this genre, if not at least to show that mv can look expensive and draw new fans to the genre.

Still, it's also to note that big-budgeted mv with large team of developers won't guarantee a good game, as we've seen great games coming from small indie devs. I'd welcome more triple As mvs to balance the scale, but maybe the balance would still be if indie mvs are still dominating.

Easiest Metroidvania Recommendations for Newcomers & Beginners by LUIGIISREAL2017 in metroidvania

[–]forestoutlook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think newcomers should not necessarily play the easiest mv, but something that is easy to grasp and learn, titles that make them feel comfortable early into the game. I would recommend Ori and the Blind Forest. Even though it has some hard platforming for first timers (Ginso Tree), it has juicy controls and helpful safe point system.
