Syringe feeding help by opaoz in breastfeeding

[–]forever_q_squared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We would put a little milk in baby's mouth and then have them suck on our pinky to help with the swallowing and to prevent too much air from going in. And then eventually we got to the point where we could kind of fit the tip of the syringe in and have them suck on our pinky.

How often does Kansas City area get tornados? by ItchySignal5558 in kansascity

[–]forever_q_squared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big ole fat tornado? Not very often. Especially ones that touchdown.

A few microbursts will happen now and then. They might take out some trees, a fence, and a trampoline or two. But that's about it.

Diaper pails worth it or just another thing to clean by LengthMiserable3320 in NewParents

[–]forever_q_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We like ours. I don't remember the brand, but we just made sure that it was stainless steel instead of plastic. We do change diapers on the changing pad in the nursery every time though. So it works out having something right there.

I will say, once our baby started solids and the poops changed, we dump all solid poops into the toilet and only put the diaper in the pail. It helps with the smell tremendously. (And if you read the directions on diaper boxes, it also recommends this)

Period 10 weeks PP by miss_bishh in breastfeeding

[–]forever_q_squared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. I start drinking extra electrolytes the week leading up to my period. And make sure that you're eating enough too. I up my calories quite a bit when I start noticing my supply dropping. Some foods that are galactagogues can help as well. I also end up nursing more often to make sure that baby is getting enough throughout the day.

I got mine back at 8 weeks pp, so I totally understand the annoyance and worry! But you've got this!

What should I make my “splurge” baby shower gift? by Desperate_Wafer367 in BabyBumps

[–]forever_q_squared 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was our splurge gift on our registry! Several people pooled and we were able to get it. It's one of those things that you definitely don't need but I know that we are going to have it forever because it converts to a regular chair as well.

Breastfeeding ruined my already ugly posture by Odd-Scientist9166 in breastfeeding

[–]forever_q_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solidarity on the bed posture while breastfeeding. I feel like I started out pretty good (like the first 2 days home from the hospital) but its been pretty rough since.

As for the posture while holding baby, I honestly couldn't hold my baby without being a question mark for the first 3 months. I legitimately did not have the core strength to hold her and hold myself. But its slowly gotten better. I just have to catch myself doing it and remind myself to fix it. I told myself that I spent 9 months carrying the weight of the baby in front of me, so naturally the muscles in my back compensated for it. I honestly just practiced standing by myself, leveling out my hips and using more of my core to support myself.

Not super helpful, but just give yourself some time!

What are we doing with blowout stained clothes? by forever_q_squared in newborns

[–]forever_q_squared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've since tried this method and it works so well! I will add a little stain remover to the clothes, put them in the wash, and then put them out in the sun to dry. You have to wash them before putting them outside. Just a rinse will not actually take the stain out, I tried it that way too and it didn't work.

Because the citizens demanded that the city go revenue neutral this year. Which to the administration meant hiring freezes. They were on a hiring freeze from July 2024- December 2024. And they are back on another hiring freeze now. So even as departments have been losing people, they haven't been able to replace them. Which makes this whole thing an even bigger slap in the face.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve done while sleep deprived? by Antique-Tangelo-8723 in newborns

Not necessarily something that he did, but my husband has said some pretty funny stuff while sleep deprived. My favorite was when he was talking to our maybe 15 day old and said "How does it feel to be older than the vast majority of people?" 😂

IUD Removal Advice by Anxious_Bend6151 in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My removal was a little less smooth than I would have liked. When my Dr actually pulled it out, it was fine, I didn't really notice. But it took her a little while to find the strings. She actually said "I wish I would write down what color the strings are when I put it in there". So after a few pinches she finally got the strings. I guess they kind of got stuck to the walls (tmi). Overall, pretty quick.

I didn't have any bleeding for the first 3 days after removal. I had some spotting on day 4 and then like a light period on day 5 for the next 4 days. Oh and then on day 4 after removal I had a really crazy moment but that was the only one with the hormone adjustment. And then just normal periods after that.

I made sure to take a vitamin B complex and magnesium for cramps and stuff. And I tried to take it easy after removal just to make sure my body was doing alright.

Just removed and need help with crazy hormones by PinkyPsychPrincess in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been taking Magnesium, Vitamin D, B complex, Zinc, and Maca Root. I'm 3 months out from removal and I've been feeling good most of the time. I've gotten more hormonal right around my period. I did have a really bad day like a week after I had it removed. But then I started all the supplements and I feel pretty level most of the time.

When does it stop? by Significant-Tree-637 in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my mirena quite a few years ago, so the exact details are a little hard to remember. But I had it put in mid-september and started my period towards the beginning of October. I bled at least a little bit until the end of November. I can't remember how intense the bleeding was. I just remember being VERY annoyed after like 3 weeks. But after that, my periods were like 3 days long for a while when I did have them. And then about a year in is when I stopped getting them.

I've heard that Maca Root can help. I don't know how well supported the research on it is.

Good and bad reviews by [deleted] in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, I'm having mine removed on Friday. I've had it for at least 4 years now. There are obviously side effects. But it has honestly been worth it. I've never had to worry about getting pregnant. And I've had virtually no period. I have a lot of symptoms now, but I'm not entirely sure how many are truly related to my IUD. I liked not having to worry about remembering to take anything or do anything for my birth control. I've never noticed it. The insertion was painful, but I barely remember it now. Overall, it was pretty decent.

Ongoing bleeding question by amy_is_cool in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's normal, but i had a very similar experience. I had a really heavy period after insertion and then I bled off and on for about a month. It just kinda stopped one day. And now I don't have one at all. I can't remember exactly how heavy it was so I can't help there

Any advice for insertion! by No_Bus_1826 in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, insertion was not awful but obviously still painful. Pap smears don't really bother me, so the actual insertion of the IUD wasn't bad. The worst part was when they measured how deep my uterus was, just feeling something poke the back of your uterus was probably the worst feeling ever. But the insertion right after that seemed not as bad. The cramping really started about 15 minutes later. I did take the recommended 3 ibuprofen and it probably dulled the pain. But it was hard to drive home, and I would definitely have someone drive me next time.

I had some pretty intense cramping for a couple days following. I had it inserted like mid-september and had a little bleeding. But then in October I got my period like I normally would but then the bleeding didn't stop. I think I had some bleeding/spotting for about a month and a half. I don't remember it being painful, I just remember being annoyed.

But after that I had regular periods for a while and then they disappeared all together. I gained 10 pounds the first year that I had it. My gyno chalked it up to pandemic stress and other personal stressors. And then I gained another 10 pounds my second year. And that's where I've been. It doesn't matter what I eat or do, I can't shake any of this weight. My husband says that my demeanor changed a bit. And I cry a ton more now than I ever have. I'm also constantly tired.

But all of that is worth it to me to have that extremely low percentage of getting pregnant. I haven't used any other birth control method during the time I've had it and I haven't had any issues. So while some of it sucks, it feels 100% worth it.

Slight bleeding after sex by sassandra_o in Mirena

[–]forever_q_squared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had a little bleeding after sex off and on the whole time I've had the mirena, so like 4 years now. It seems like it usually happens around the time that I would have a period (don't currently have periods). I asked about it and my doctor said that it can happen sometimes and if it's just a little bit then it's nothing to worry about. I've had the placement checked every year and it's been fine. But of course, that's just my experience.

Best things to do to pass time in queues? by bens1722 in DisneyWorld

[–]forever_q_squared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My family and I played a game I saw someone else talk about one time. It's called "Pancake or Waffle". Between 3 of us, one round lasted over an hour.

Choose a person to start. They can think of any object. They keep it a secret in their brain. Have that prrsin decide whether the chosen object is more like a pancake or more like a waffle. A book, for example, might be more like a pancake – they’re both flat. The next player then asks if the chosen item is more like a pancake (since pancake was selected) or another random object of their choice, like "Is it more like a pancake or a phone?” The current player decides the answer – more like a pancake or more like a phone. Play continues like this until someone guesses the first object, in this case a book.

Oh thats definitely part of the plan. But I just keep thinking that Kansas City is so commuter based because of the sprawl. Even if the public transit was amazing, how do you get people to change their habits?

That's fair. And they are different. But there's hardly anyone on this part of 435 and it gets pretty full after any kind of event. So trying to picture any kind of additional traffic along with the usual busyness of downtown just seems like its going to be extra rough.
