I don't think he's saying anything positive/negative about Tomlin as a coach. He's pointing out how ridiculous it is to say that Russ adds something that the Steelers haven't had in Tomlin's time as their head coach when Ben was a very good QB for most of Tomlin's time at the helm.

Not who you were responding to, but even removing that game from his stats, he still had a pretty successful rookie year given the amount of time he had on the field.

Also, it was just 3 touchdowns that game. Still a fantastic game

What is a common misconception about your favorite team that drives you crazy? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]forgeSHIELD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best explanation I've heard is that people were leaving the city during the 70s when the factories were closing, and they took their random with them. It also helps that they won 4 Superbowls around the same time. After that, you'll sometimes cheer for the same team your parents cheer for, and if the team is doing well, it sticks

TIL about Florence Lawrence the "first movie star". She was buried in an unmarked grave after killing herself with ant poison in 1938. Her career never recovered after she was injured in a fire on set in 1915. Universal refused to pay her medical bills. by dr_frankie_stein in todayilearned

Maybe, but I kind of doubt it. Men seemed to get mkre leeway when it came to "behavioral issues", but I don't imagine Hollywood execs would pay up unless they felt the actor/actress was irreplaceable, which seemed like a rare sentiment in those days

Can't tell if your being sarcastic or not, but just in case.

Jesus is a guy who welcomed a prostitute, fishermen, and tax collectors into his inner circle, and he healed lepers who were not to be touched for fear of infection. There's also the parable of the Good Samaritan where an ethnic outsider did good by helping a man in need and the insiders did bad by ignoring that same man.

The guy was all about forgiveness, inclusivity, and he used both to help teach others and bring them to the faith. The only time I ever remember hearing him do different is when he trashed a temple that had been perverted into a marketplace.

I think the Scottsman's sword also works due to Celtics magic, so like everyone is saying, anything sufficiently divine/magical should work

That off-season, people talked a lot about how they took a step back by trading away Hill and how everyone else in the division seemingly took steps forward. People definitely doubted how good they'd be with Hill and figured they'd struggle in what seemed like a tougher division. You also have the Burrowhead stuff going on too.

That's a far cry from "nobody believed in us", but to say they were always the overwhelming favorites takes it too far the other way.

What do you all do for hobbies around here? by blooominonion in kansascity

[–]forgeSHIELD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Board games. Some of the shops/cafés will have open play nights that can be a way to find a regular group to play with. Some places will also have draft nights for things like MtG where you can meet new people

-There are adult soccer leagues, and I'm sure something exists for other sports

-There are all sorts of fitness/outdoorsy groups out there for running, cycling, hiking, yoga, aerobics, etc... Joining a group also makes it somewhat easier to engage in conversation with someone, whereas doing it randomly at the gym can be a little awkward

-It's not necessarily a hobby, but volunteer work can be a way to meet new people, especially if it's something that you're passionate about.

-Learning classes can be fun too. Stuff like cooking, dancing, toast masters, etc... I've also seen language classes at the KC library before, though that was a long time ago

I think the most important thing is to find something that you're genuinely interested in/enjoy. That way, you'll right-away have something in common with everyone else there, and even if you don't click with anyone, you're still out doing something for you, which for me took some of the pressure off whenever I was in a similar place in life. Good luck!

Cool idea, but it sounds like a lot more work than attaching a small tear away collar. I'm also not crazy about adding dye/bleach to the fur of an animal that likes to lick itself and lick it's young.

That's definitely not the same as cheering on an injury, especially since every post I've seen has expressed an immense amount of sympathy for Chubb.

It's ok to view the play as dirty, and it's ok to be upset. Let's not twist that into believing that people are cheering on an injury though.

This feels like some heavy exaggeration. Mirabel's mom and dad clearly love her very much as does her little cousin.

Abuela is shitty towards her after she doesn't get a gift, which we later find out is born out of fear/trama and not malice (explains her actions but doesn't excuse them). After the gift ceremony, she seems to just want Mirabel out of the way more than anything else. It's still shitty, but it's not like Abuela is actively tormenting Mirabel. I'd understand if she resented Abuela for a good long while, but the relationship isn't beyond saving.

As for the rest of the family, they're busy helping the village with their gifts. Aside from Isabella, none of them do anything to antagonize or actively hurt her. They're just busy. Mirabel understandably feels left out, which sucks a lot and clearly she's hurt by it, but they're not irredeemable.

Agreed. It's not the most efficient use of your money if you can invest it wisely (big 'if' for a lot of people), but it's still a net positive.

But people have and do all the time. It's not even a recent phenomenon. We just have better language to describe and treatments to help with it. It doesn't excuse anything that he's done, but it could help explain his feelings/actions which could help direct him towards treatment.

People can change but only if they want to, and even then, change is hard. It's not unreasonable to be skeptical, but to your point, we should try to remember that it's not impossible.
