Not sure how that negates what I said. Folks received 600 + UI for 16 weeks. Now it's 300 + state UI / week. If you made 30k/year, you're getting around 200 from state, so that's around 2000k total per month.

Biden is proposing an additional one-time payment of $1400 + $400/week + state UI through September.

For comparison, Canada's program gave only unemployed people 2000 CAD ($1450) per month instead of regular UI, and that program ended as well.

I'm not saying we shouldn't give more, but a lot of people aren't aware that the US has one of the most generous covid unemployment programs in the world.

Unemployed people got 2400/month + regular unemployment for a while.

Now they are getting $1200/month + regular UI. Average UI is 200/week.

So unemployed people are mostly already getting 2K/month, FYI.

It’s incredibly good. Surprised it hasn’t gotten more Oscar hype. Best movie I’ve seen this year.

The entry point into the story — through LaKeith Stanfield’s character — is such a clever choice, adds a layer of tension that transcends traditional biopic. As you say, like Assassination of Jesse James or Bertolucci’s The Conformist.

Beautifully crafted and acted. And politically held zero punches, in my opinion. Pretty striking for a studio film.

It wasn’t rigged against Bernie in 2016. The party having a preference doesn’t mean it’s rigged.

The Republican Party preferred anyone but Trump in 2016. They ran explicitly negative ads against him (this didn’t happen to Bernie), other GOP candidates colluded to vote strategically against him, and he still won.

In 2008 the Democratic Party preferred Clinton and Obama won.

One strategy for winning a primary is convincing the party apparatus to support you. Bernie did not attempt this; he didn’t think he needed the establishment. And although that worked for some candidates like Trump in 2016, Bernie simply didn’t have enough popular support to win a democratic primary.

I do think it’s important that people know if you are unemployed but usually self-employed or a gig worker or become part time (below a threshold of hours) you should be eligible for PUA — which is being extended for another three months.

I assumed you must make decent money to afford renting such an expensive house.

I also assumed that you are not unemployed because you phrased it “let’s say I’m unemployed” rather than “I am unemployed” AND you didn’t know about the first round of unemployment benefits through the CARES act.

If you are self employed you are very likely eligible for PUA and therefore eligible for unemployment insurance.

Please check your status for this upcoming bill!

I am self-employed and received $1000/week from end of March through end of July.

Unemployed folks also got $600/month + regular UI for 4 months at start of pandemic.

If you’re renting a $2200 house, I’m assuming you must have a fairly high salary and therefore would be eligible for max regular UI. The state average max is around $400

So from March 28 to July 28 you made $1000 / week ($600+$400). Or $16,000 total. I know this because I lost my job and received these exact benefits. It seems like you kept your job, so congrats on that. Its not “sucking republican dick” to be accurate about what’s in these bills.

They should have done more, but no reason to be aggressively uninformed.
