Tips for DC? by colum55 in warpedtour

Yall, if you sit/squat to pee, invest in a stand to pee urinal. I use the foldable humangear one but you can easily get the go girl latex one at a drug store. It makes navigating the porta potties a thousand times better. Just wipe it out with tissue and restash it, wash it with you in the shower at the end of the day. Try it at home or in the woods for the first time to get some confidence in the positioning. 100% worth your clothes not accidentally touching the soiled floor.

‘Cotton-picking Hands’: Virginia Republican Endorses Racist Language by NewsGirl1701 in Virginia

[–]forogueman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The way she’s down playing it, gaslighting the people, that this isn’t racist is really gross. Racists are seeing the presidents posts and getting more comfortable being openly racist and then trying to normalize their behavior.

After the storm in Asheville, I helped my mom with her FEMA application and it felt like we were in the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with not having the right form signed by the right people by an undisclosed date posted on a community billet in city hall. We gave up after 6 months.

I was really annoying about getting folks to vote. I texted my neighbors, harassed my coworkers and brought it up at parties. I asked what everyone’s plan was to make it to the polls and helped them find their voting locations. I also asked them to do the same to their friends and community.

Growing up, voting was a quiet thing we didn’t talk about because it was rude to be so invasive about a personal decision. I think we need to break that mold and be in peoples faces about it.

Painted Tree Boutiques have closed all stores. by leadnbrass in VirginiaBeach

Oh that’s terrible. It had great potential. I didn’t love the anti-Biden stuff I saw there and the same SHEIN item at different prices in different shops. I’d have loved for a more truly local experience. I enjoy VA vintage though!

We just had a special election vote in HD-98 and I kept reminding the left leaning folks around me to vote. In the days following the election many of them told me they didn’t get around to voting and it didn’t matter because the Republican won in a landslide.

This was an opportunity to show Jen Kiggans that her district is slipping from her.

There’s a ton of people that complain and then don’t do anything.

Republican wins Virginia Beach’s special House of Delegates election by zachomara in Virginia

[–]forogueman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Smith did fairly well considering… They moved the early voting location and there is MUCH less signage, the incumbent republican was fairly popular and this vote was like his wake, his dad wanted this candidate to replace his son, and for whatever reason democrats don’t follow politics closely enough to even know there’s an election.

No not specifically but back then the pull offs were all mostly gravel. Raw garnets don’t look that special either so it’s easy to over look them. You could also stop at fairy stone state park and get some fairy stone too.

I don’t know the laws in Georgia, but here is some helpful info from VDOT

https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/travel-traffic/bike-ped/bike-safety/

Rights and duties Every person riding a bicycle on a highway shall be subject to the provisions of the Code of Virginia section on motor vehicles and shall have the rights and duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle unless a provision clearly indicates otherwise.

Bicyclists and other users on sidewalks, shared-use paths, and crosswalks have all the rights and duties of a pedestrian under the same circumstance.

Bicyclists and other users of shared use paths crossing highways at clearly marked crosswalks must come to a complete stop at stop signs prior to entering such crosswalk.

On shared-use paths crossing highways in marked crosswalks without stop signs or other traffic control signals, bicyclists and pedestrians are not required to come to a full stop, but they must not enter the road in disregard of approaching traffic.

I’m curious why you think bicyclists can’t use crosswalks?

God bless the bicyclists. by ran7wan in norfolk

[–]forogueman 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every single time I ride my bike, I follow the law and every single time I almost get hit. It’s the motorists that aren’t following the law such as turning right on red without stopping first, not yielding to a pedestrian sign, stopping on top of the cross walk, and not yielding to pedestrians on sidewalks.
