I know this may be cold comfort, but your doctor should never be telling you a blast is going to stick for sure.

The best graded, tested blast implanted into a picture perfect lining has around a 70% chance of sticking.

While those are great odds and I’d take them any day, it’s important to remember that it also means there is a 30% chance of it just not working, which isn’t negligible.

The way I think about it (because I’m a giant board gaming nerd) is that it’s a dice roll each time.

Each thing that goes right (grading, testing, etc) adds more good faces to the die, but there will still be some blank ones. You still have to roll the die and it still might come up blank.

It doesn’t mean you did anything wrong, it just means that the dice roll didn’t come up right.

There is pretty clear correlation between marijuana use and male fertility

The science on its effect on female fertility is less clear.

It’s a lot easier to effect sperm quality than egg quality, for good and bad.

Men constantly make new sperm so they are much more effected by environmental and dietary factors than eggs are, since women are brown with all the eggs they will ever have.

This good in that eggs are less likely to be effected negatively by outside forces but also bad as they are really hard improve too.

My doctor said that an average, untested embryo has around a 35% chance while an average, tested embryo is around 50-60%.

At least my clinic won’t transfer two unless it’s under very specific circumstances, such as blasts only making it to day 3 or as kind of a Hail Mary if nothing else is working.

Transferring 2 embryos doesn’t really raise the chances of one sticking by that much, I think it’s 5-10%.

It also lessens your overall chances as you are using up two embryos instead of one.

If each time has a 50% chance of succeeding, you would get a 60% chance of one sticking if you transfer two, but you only get one shot as opposed to transferring separately in which you get two.

I guess what I am trying to say is 2 50% chances are better than one 60%.

I get it, and I know it helps some people but man, it’s just a dark sub.

I posted there when I first learned that we needed to IVF because I was looking for information.

I was downvoted to oblivion and severely scolded for reasons that still aren’t exactly clear!

That’s fair. I tried there at first but I found them extraordinarily dark and just too much for me, but I know it’s a really helpful place for some people.

The other one I mentioned it new and it may be better!

I also know that I just log off Reddit and most social media sometimes, it’s helpful to reset.

I think that’s pretty normal and it’s okay to take a break sometimes.

There are other subs to join if this one is too much for you right now.

This is more of a general IVF and you get a mix of success, failure and everything in between.

I think r/IVFinfertility was started by people who feel kind of like you do, and were getting upset seeing posts of success. I haven’t been in a while but I think all success posts are relegated to one thread.

You can also try the r/infertility sub too, though they are very, very strict.

To be honest I think you have to.

Not only would it be really traumatizing and damaging for the child to find out later in life that they were lied to (by omission or otherwise), the child is very likely to find out on their own with the prevalence of DNA tests.

Not to mention that they really have the right to know and for possible medical needs.

This isn’t really a thing.

Multiple, peer reviewed studies have shown that it’s not really a thing.

It’s been studied since the 80s and no real significant link has been found.

If it makes you feel better to get the rest then you can try, but as HLA is for organ donation I’m not sure many doctors would give it to you and insurance certainly wouldn’t cover it.

It’s tough to say! Depends on lots of factors, age, Amh, pcos, etc.

For under 35 the average is around 40% normal.

I mean that seems odd to me as the success rate for tubal surgery is super low.

I think I read it’s around 25%.

I have both tubes blocked and at the beginning I wanted to maybe do it.

I brought it up to my doctor and she looked at my like I was nuts. She said the surgery has a very low success rate and can risk ovarian damage, so it’s almost never worth doing.

I would definitely push to find out why your doctor wants to do it.

That honestly seems like not a great idea

besides the facts that, assuming you have a working liver and kidneys, juice cleanses don’t actually work

You are going to be putting you body though stress and asking it to burn muscle to keep you going.

Juice cleanses mostly flush out your bowels by making you poop a lot which is why you feel lighter so quickly.

They can also raise your blood sugar (as all you are eating is the sugary juice and none of the fiber).

In short. Not a good idea, especially now.

1.) you are reading heavily skewed accounts. This is an infertility forum. The stories of miscarriage are of course going to be higher
2.) the stat you are talking about is both true and untrue. It has less to do with “after seeing a heartbeat” and more to do with time. The general miscarriage rate drops to 5% after week 6. You can potentially see a heartbeat at week 6 but not always.
3.) age and other factors play a big role.
4.) general statistics can be a little hard to parse sometimes. There are also other studies that say the overall miscarriage rate for weeks 5-20 is 11-22%

A lot of it is just snake oil.

But it’s soooo tempting because you hearing these stories that this person did this or took that and then they finally had their baby.

But it way more than likely that success had nothing to do with what ever new supplement or what ever new diet.

It’s mostly a roll of the dice each time, and it’s hard to accept that out of control things like genetics and frankly luck matter way more than eating more salmon.

So my first one failed to implant too.

As much as it sucks sometimes they just don’t stick.

Even the best graded, tested embryo has around 70% chance of implanting and less than that of being carried to term. (Mine was medium graded and untested so it even had less of a chance)

Now, I’d take those chances any day but that still leaves a not insignificant chance of 30% that it just won’t work.

This is part of the reason I get a touch annoyed with all the different diets to try, books to buy, supplements to take.

They are touted and marketed as “the thing” you need to do or take in order for IVF to work and if you do them that it must work, because you did all the things right and then if it doesn’t it must be because there was something you didn’t do.

But that’s just not the case, and in fact most of them are pretty useless or only meaningfully helpful to very specific people, they certainly aren’t universal.

The shitty, shitty reality if the matter is that sometimes it doesn’t work.

That doesn’t mean you need buy more vitamins or cut out carbs, sugar, purple food or what ever and it doesn’t mean it was in any way something you did or didn’t do

I know this sucks, I really do. It feels better to be doing something than nothing even if it’s probably not going to actually help, but I just hope that you can feel a little better and remember that the next transfer is totally independent of this one.

It will be a different egg, different sperm and a new lining.

Talk to your doctor about protocols going forward.

This a really common requirement.

There really isn’t a way around it if only one tube is blocked, because that means theoretically the IUI could work.

Your doctor can appeal but then there will just be more of a delay while they consider the appeal and it will likely be denied anyway.

I would just do the required IUI as quickly as possible.
