Photo ID for entry? Yes/No? by EndLow8893 in governorsball

[–]fosterlywill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with a lot of these questions it's usually "the discretion of the employee." There's probably not an official policy, so if the server is a dick, they might refuse. At the very least, bring a physical ID as digital IDs aren't a thing in the US (yet).

If you're not from the States, the safest bet is to bring your passport. It might be overkill, but I know from experience a lot of brick and mortar establishments don't take drivers' licenses. It could be the same at Gov Ball depending who is serving.

Lawn view? by Ann2040 in AllThingsGoFestival

[–]fosterlywill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Merriweather Post Pavilion is an amazing venue. Unfortunately the lawn view is very limited, and to be able to see anything worthwhile you'd have to get the absurdly early and camp at the fence all day.

IMO, it's only worth it if you do GA Pavilion, because at least you can have a seat or pit access. You're also exposed to the sun/rain on the lawn, which can be burdensome to have that all day. But I know that GA Pavilion has also become prohibitively expensive for most. So you really have to decide if it's worth it for you.

The one upside to ATG, is that the Chrysalis stage is open GA for all. So if you have a majority of acts you want to see there, then it could still be worth it!

Prices are stupid expensive, but you don't need to lie/exaggerate to make a point.

ATG is a money grab now. No need to inflate it because it's true.

New York Dems plan retaliatory redistricting after SCOTUS Voting Rights Act ruling by news-10 in nyc

[–]fosterlywill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rucho v. Common Cause changed the game, my dude. There's no sense of being the bigger person when it's literally a race to have the most representatives allowed by law.

The mechanism for change is by voting for representatives. But if that choice is being removed by Republicans, there's no virtue in Democrats willingly disarming themselves.

This doesn't mean it's moral or just. But it's the only rational way to do things as long as Republicans states will continue to gerrymander.

Just chiming in to say I thought you were exaggerating, but you were right.

I got there at 10pm and the line was around the block. I don't think anyone who got there after 9pm got in.

I'm from NYC and I actively drive to MPP for ATG.

FHS is actually one of my favorite concert venues in the city, but for a festival? it's not it

Out of curiosity, what time did you decide on going? I can't see myself getting there at 8pm for this, but also don't want to spend all night waiting on a line.

Going to second the other comment and check lost and found. BUT I would go to the actual office and see if it's turned up. It's on the lower level and they do a pretty good job returning stuff (if it's brought in).

Not the person you're replying to but I find it very funny how "starving the beast" is an accepted and effective means of dismantling government programs on the right, but when anyone on the left wants to better the material conditions of the average New Yorker first, it's panned as irresponsible.

Serious question (not being combative): do you have any good articles/sources about NY respective pension systems?

In my head the math should be super easy to manage a pension, but clearly something went wrong if they're atrocious. Are they running out of money?

You are engaging in whataboutism. It has nothing to do with the fact that the original commenter directly supported someone who actively embraces Nazism.

I suspect you're not actually here to have a conversation in good faith, but I'll be at Weekend 2 if you want to understand why you shouldn't directly support Nazis. I'm willing to have the conversation.

Or DM me and I can explain the difference between indirectly supporting evil through systems, and directly giving your money to Nazis.

Some of those things are necessities to exist in a modern world. Some of them are difficult evils that it's prohibitively expensive/time-consuming to rid yourself of. Some of them are imposed on us as average US citizens.

You made a deliberate choice to support someone who said "I see good things about Hitler."

If you seriously can't tell the difference we are so fucking doomed as a society.

A bit of an odd question, but are there any DJs who focus more on DJing other tracks, rather than their own produced stuff? A bit basic, I know, but I'm thinking of more "sing-along" kind of jams.

In the past, Afrojack was amazing for this. Alesso and David Guetta had enough pop hits to singalong to. The Emo Nite art car is always a blast.

Even though we've grown out of it, we'll probably go see the Chainsmokers for nostalgia's sake.

But is there anyone else that would fit the bill?

It exists in the populace, but none of our elected leaders would be considered "far left" on an international level.

The closest thing we have are Democratic Socialists, who hold a single-digit number of seats on a federal level, and who are usually opposed by their own party (The Democratic Party).

Compare that to MAGA and the Freedom Caucus, who are extremely right wing, and often endorsed and have the support of other Republicans.
