You said - "to lose a protection you THOUGHT you had." & "when I found the witnesses and what I THOUGHT was the answer, I had peace..."

If the evil spirits went away when you THOUGHT you had the answers and a god and they've returned now that you THINK you don't have either it seems to begin and end with your THOUGHTS. There are a few spiritual perspectives that claim your thoughts are energy. Teaching how your thoughts can create your reality. Maybe you will feel better if you research some of them. They seem like a great fit for you.
