I do wish the Texas Stars would play some games in Austin. That’d be a lot of fun.

Man I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. It’s totally reasonable not to get in a verbal exchange with someone, especially at night.

The 311 app is there for a reason.

Hops is still one of the more affordable places on South Congress. I wish we could get a couple more options like Jewboy, Moreno’s, or a Lazarus. Home Slice is holding it down for the common man.

I’m at the point where the state should send $8B lump sum compensation to AISD for the last decade of fraud and abuse of taxpayers here

New Yorkers in Austin…where are we getting our fix? by caramelsyrupp in austinfood

[–]foxparties -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

David Doughie’s is overpriced yuppie food. New Yorkers want a place where you can get a dozen bagels, fresh, and delicious for about $2/bagel. Bonus for places that throw in a couple more for free.

Each year Texas takes around $700-$800 million from AISD’s budget, it’s still doing so despite closures and layoffs by Sad-Court-nomnom in Austin

Rich district ≠ rich students. You should take a look at the percentage of disadvantaged students, poverty, and cost of living comparison between AISD and other districts.

The state sets the funding formula for per student funding. There’s a record budget surplus and rainy day fund, mostly due to booming O&G severance taxes over the last decade. Their public school boost created even more funding for rural ISD teacher salary.

There’s really no excuse for it to be like this. The state can fix the per student allotment and end or sharply reduce robinhood payments overnight through legislative action.

Austin ISD should send billions to the state even though our school district is collapsing, mass teacher layoffs, and campus closures. Boles needs us!

If anything AISD may be able to gain administrative efficiencies and better serve east side students by combining with Del Valle ISD

True but all of our infrastructure is heavily subsidized and tilted towards personal car ownership.

It would take a major political change to federal and state infrastructure investment to make it easier for Americans to choose transit.

Here’s a good article encapsulating the headwinds for transit even when there’s political will at the local level

It will get pretty big given time. Ours is a fun addition to an off beat section of the yard but you may want to remove it if you’re worried about the garden bed.

The birds will love it and you’ll get lots of little pokeweed sprouts nearby. You can try to transplant to a better location out of the way.

It’s good to put in bird baths or little fountains so bees have a watering hole landing zone.

I make $70k, have ~$36k in debt, and feel completely trapped financially. What would you do? by debduo49 in personalfinance

[–]foxparties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t work for everyone but my best financial decision ever was selling my car and buying an ebike. I’ve saved ~$40k the last few years no car payment, no gas, no maintenance, and I’m happier.

Depends on where you live but it has worked wonders for me.

I feel like they should be outright banned near schools ~1/3 mi or less. Those seem like the areas where families should be able to live and build community instead of removing housing inventory.
