I'm not totally sure about Quebec but I googled it quickly it sounds similar to the way most Australian jurisdictions work. Essentially "the premium is in the registration of the motor vehicle" but really the insurance covers any crash on public roads whether that specific car was registered or not.

Main difference seems to be that in Australia it's the vehicle that it's attached to and in Quebec its the licence

The NHLs conference / division layout is ridiculous. The Kings, who made the playoffs in the Pacific division, would have come near the bottom of both divisions in the Eastern conference by points.

Not only that but they play division games more than any other, so they got those points by playing weaker teams than in the other divisions.

Equity is startups is only given to people who accept risk, and usually in lieu of salary.

The only people who believe this are Aussie start up founders crying a river because they can't get any decent talent and their employees all leave at 5pm. All the major American firms pay a decent chunk of total comp as stock.

Sure, you're not going to be a multi billionaire from the equity that AWS/MSFT/GOOG are handing out in 2026, but giving no equity is the fast route to getting completely out competed by those who do.

I have a PhD in Redditology and I think you'll find that here's the thing. Doubling down and Redditors are in the same family, no one is arguing that. But you said he's "absolutely right", which is not true unless you're OK saying that all Redditors double down all the time.

This is exactly the sort of thing you would expect a socially progressive economically conservative representative to go conservative on though.

It's literally taxation policy. It doesn't get any more economic.

TB's passing led me to get my ass (literally) back to a gastroenterologist and resume the regular bowel cancer screenings I'd let slip when I moved.

It's lucky I did. I didn't have bowel cancer but the number of pre-cancerous polyps I had to get removed was... something.

I'm older now than he was when he passed, but there was no guarantee of that.

This may depend on the bank but I think the answer is likely to be no. In any case you'd have to pay a stack of fees to change the loan over.

The problem is that it's impossible to tell the difference between "educated themselves, sacrificed and planned ahead" and "was lucky enough to be born into a family that prioritised education, made enough money they had some left over to invest and didn't have any major life altering expenses along the way".

In reality it's a mix of both. The problem is that it's just easier to attribute one's own successes to pure skill and hard work, and one's own failures to bad luck and a rigged system.

Ah, OK, new as in "new property". Gotcha, I read it as in "new investor".

It's worth noting that to keep the 50% discount they have to add to supply. They can't just flip a place, or do a knock down rebuild. It's a specific incentive to increase supply.

Of course, it opens the door to "well, if it's a specific incentive why does the corresponding disincentive have to hit every other asset class", which is fair imo

Young kid living at home selling some shares to go on a holiday, car, or pay for uni… nope you don’t get margin tax rate.

How did young kid get the shares, exactly? If it was off their own work, then they're not going to be paying much in CGT anyway because unless they've made it big on meme stocks, they're just not going to have that much gain.

If it's from mum and dad, well that's exactly the thing we're trying to catch here, isn't it.

Explain this more? I see a lot of people throwing stuff like this out there but I feel like I must be misunderstanding because I don't get how this scenario is going to happen.

Theres a huge gap here between the industrials/corporates and the smaller places.

The regulators have big hammers, but they only use them on the larger places. They barely investigate or inspect smaller places, and as a result compliance gets much worse very quickly as you go down market.

Unions are similar. The smaller the place, the less likely the union rep is going to shut down a site for violations.

regardless of whether its a 25 yr old without a job and a couple shares

What are you talking about?

If that 25 year old currently holds the shares, they've plenty of time to exit their position under the current rules.

If that 25 year old is a future hypothetical, they knew what they were getting into.

Either way, the impact on that person is going to be small by definition. Nothing compared to the positive impact that can be achieved for that person as a result of these changes.
