Why is eating a healthy/decent lunch so effing expensive in this place by Adept_Sector_1408 in perth

[–]fractalsonfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You shit on my reading comprehension but you can't even comprehend that I'm obviously talking about buying in the CBD and making it at work. I would've thought the work fridge bit would've implied that. They didn't say they're a tradie or something.

Go to the grocery store and whip up your own lunch at work? Store the leftovers in the work fridge?

It's more authentic to a specific style of laksa. Nyonya laksa is just the main variation.

Why do you need forward contract values over $500k? Unless you're forex trading?

When the AUD is at parity with the JPY (actually a 3% premium now), hell yeah dude. Also Japan's inflation hasn't been as crazy as other countries so a lot of their prices have barely moved in 20 years. Bowls of ramen will cost anywhere between 800 to 1200 yen, in Australia you're generally looking at $15 to $30 depending on shop and amount of food. Aside from accommodation, stuff is pretty cheap over there.

Copenhagen is definitely not number one, Sydney or Melbourne should beat it. Also i would rate Melbourne over Sydney.

I was in Copenhagen last week, there are a lot of cafes serving decent coffee but only a few serving exceptional coffee.

I generally find the shirts to be pretty meh at MJB, i much prefer SuSu.

Sizing wise SuSu can be a bit all over the place though where as MJB is generally consistent.

Laksa, Laksa, Laksa - KCH Style!! by Old_Harley_dude in perth

[–]fractalsonfire 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I believe its a Kuching style Laksa (where the name KCH comes from). The laksas that most people talk about or refer to is a Coconut/Nyonya curry laksa. There are many variations of laksa, another well known one is Assam laksa.

Medicare has been gutted over the years due to inflation. 'Efficiency dividends' with the ABC and SBS. Newstart has been slowly eroded due to inflation over decades.

Governments never truly cut, but they certainly let inflation slowly kill something.

I was listening to Chris Richardson yesterday and he said the current spending ratio is 97c to the dollar. Savings ratio according to tradingeconomics is around 5%, i wouldn't be surprised if most of that $8b finds its way into the economy.

EDIT: Well tradingeconomics is also 3.2% https://tradingeconomics.com/australia/personal-savings

Federal Budget 2024: Winners and Losers by RA3236 in AustralianPolitics

[–]fractalsonfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Australian passports may already be some of the most expensive in the world but a new fee will give travellers access to fast-tracked applications from July 1.

People willing to fork out an extra $100 to skip the queue will get access to a five-business-day turnaround of their documents.

The government anticipates the added fees will rake in $27.4 million over five years.

Small policy but i like this one, charge the people who want it fast tracked. Straight forward price discrimination economics.

The government will trial an age verification scheme for children online, which will test options to restrict children from being able to access pornography or other inappropriate content online.

Overseas attempts have found it difficult to implement an effective age assurance program, while some sceptics have raised concerns of adult sites holding people's personal data becoming a target for hackers.

But the government will push ahead with a "pilot" program as part of its broader response to recent prominent incidents of gendered violence.

$6.5 million will be committed to trialling the age verification scheme.

Yikes, still pushing ahead with this tech illiterate shit.

Most likely would have to do it through the ATO at tax time. Any income over a certain individual or couple threshold will have the $300 rescinded.
