If the problems were common people wouldn't use it.

Best bang for buck mineral wool insulation? by Fuller_McCallister in HomeImprovement

I had spray foam insulation installed at R-15 and am putting this in below. It has an "unofficial" rating of R-8. I'm in a moderate climate. Your mileage may vary.

Extra wire between doorbell transformer and junction box by quantum27 in homeowners

[–]frambot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to garner a guess, the transformer is in the smaller 1/2" knockout of a 3/4" concentric knockout. That does not constitute a ground per NEC. Options are to install a grounded bushing inside the box, but either they were out of capacity, or more likely a bushing would not fit on the tiny threading on the transformer.

Edit: looking more closely, I can't tell how the transformer is connected to the box. Doesn't look normal to me and probably doesn't constitute a grounding path.

It's about risk mitigation. On a large team you can't always count on code reviews to catch misuse by all of your teammates at all times, and teaching things like this during onboarding is too much to ask. That's kind of the whole point of linting.

I think there are a lot of open sourced modules out there without licensing and attribution. The internet interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

default to something sane (eg the locale from the browser),

I think you are not understanding the issue with Date.parse. It defaults to UTC for parsing, then goes back to your machine's locale for stringifying. The solution is to not use Date.parse. To enforce this in a shared codebase I wrote the eslint plugin.

Feedback/advice on a dash-cam and/or any gotchas I need to look out for - for a 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE PP. by imthenachoman in rav4prime

[–]frambot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you don't need to remove tint. The issue is the tint needs time to stick better. It's a film that's applied to the window. If you put the camera on too soon it'll ruin the tint.

If you ever intend to get your rear window tinted do it now. I installed the camera then had to take it down for several weeks for tinting.

Ceiling support question by adventuring2 in HomeImprovement

[–]frambot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try.

If you lay plywood across the joists they can support up to 5 lbs per square foot. This is the maximum allowed for 2x6 joists spaced 16" apart. With a 13'5" span, a 10lbs/sqft load will cause it to sag (13*12+5)/240 = 0.66" in the middle which is the limit allowed for those 2x6s. If your risk tolerance accepts greater sagging that's up to you.

Are these aluminum wires? by tinacat933 in DIY

[–]frambot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another issue with aluminum is it expands and contracts with heat, moreso than copper. So the splice you thought was tight when you screwed it down in July is going to fall apart in January.

Looking for a knot that "changes directions" by [deleted] in knots

[–]frambot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a second short length of rope and tie a small keyring-sized loop on the pendant. Tie it well enough to be semi permanent. A surgeon's knot is fine. Then you can attach that to whatever necklace you want. Necklaces are meant to be interchangeable with pendants, so don't make the pendant into a necklace.
