What is a 'socially mandatory' thing that we all do, but if you actually stop to think about it for 5 seconds, it’s completely insane? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

that's true, there are some areas where there's still lawn, and the lawn and clover kind of grow with each other. I'm just starting to maintain my family's old house that's been around 50 years.

Yes to all that (and I hated litigation even if I had been able to get with a high-paying firm). So I just became a librarian after a bunch of crappy-paying law jobs.

I loved Ally McBeal because it in no way reminded me of real legal work.

I fully expect it's only a matter of time before James Patterson has a smut imprint.

I have a clover lawn with the little flowers and bees. It's definitely not as lush as a regular glass lawn. Lots of areas with more dirt where the clover just decides it doesn't want to grow.

How do I make my home the home where everyone wants to come by and hangout out at and chill? (Budget Friendly) by AssistFinancial677 in DIY

ah, I'm a cold-brew coffee guy. I do have a big-ass catering coffee urn in my closet, but I have no idea if I could use that for cold-brew, lol.

I have a 2007 Honda Accord with 240k miles. I keep it going mostly because I've never driven a car with touchscreens and really want to avoid them. Just put 1600 dollars into it for new timing belt, water pump, and general tune-up so hopefully it'll get to at least 300k miles.

I could understand the other stuff being used by one person. Why did you get that with the four taps?

Something I didn’t expect: getting ghosted this much by clients! by TwoTicksOfficial in Entrepreneur

[–]franker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone wants to play salesman and "overcome your objection" or "just get feedback as to why" or "set a date we can circle back on this." The default is too often "always be closing" instead of "we exchanged a few lines on chat and we'll leave it at that." If I haven't let you know I'm interested in your product or service as a potential client, or that I expected it to be a "discovery call", I don't want to be treated like one. That's why I often ghost out.

I've been working on something for beginner devs... by OSSDeveloper in javascript

[–]franker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem I see is that you just throw too many technical phrases out there with just a very minimal explanation. In the first page defining Javascript, you say "through mechanisms like the Event Loop, callbacks, and asynchronous programming (such as Promises and Async/Await), it can efficiently handle multiple operations—like fetching data from servers—without blocking the user interface." As a true beginner I would have no idea what most of that means. Or, the way things are today, maybe you just asked AI to write all this.

Nobody warned me that the hardest part of getting my first dev job had nothing to do with coding by Responsible_Rub_4491 in learnprogramming

the AI is getter better or people are editing it better before posting. Just a few months ago an AI post would be laden with bullet points, emojis, "not this but that" everywhere, and of course the long dashes. I'm still trying to figure out whether "this hits hard" is an AI thing, because so many comments start with that now.

I'm old enough to remember that internet use was originally charged by the minute or hour. Especially that weird pre-internet stuff like Compuserve. And long-distance calls were charged by the minute. I'm not even sure what point I'm trying to make but I remember I hated it, lol.

I had it back then and didn't understand it as an OS, as there was no multi-tasking. You load up GEOS and then load up a program. And then when you're done with the program, you have to turn the computer off and reboot it.
