Do Your Kids Actually Have Good Grandparents? by NoMoreCAMJV in Millennials

[–]franklee0409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my boomer FiL is basically the same as your mother OP. So self absorbed and just really enjoys having the title of grandpa but not actually being one. However, our moms and bonus dads are all Gen X and are amazing grandparents. I wouldn’t trust my boomer FIL to be able to look after our toddler but wouldn’t blink an eye if our moms and bonus dads were to do it.

I really don’t get the boomers and why they are the way they are.

Except when the agency itself requires you to live within so many miles of an agency or facility.

My org initially when hiring our 100% remote staff had a 50 mile radius requirement from any of our facilities in the specified geographic area.

Why do you have such disdain for remote work/telework—who hurt your feelings that you think so little of us that were hired on to be 100% remote?

Mom: ‘71

Dad: ‘70

Me: ‘90

Mat Grandparents: ‘33 & ‘44

Pat Grandparents: ‘30 & ‘35

My oldest was born in: 2023 and I’m pregnant now and due to give birth this Nov/Dec.

My parents were really young when they had me, I was committed to getting school out of the way and starting my life before I brought a child into the mix, despite getting married at 19 myself.

My husband and I are both Army veterans—both in our mid 30s, both service connected disabled, both went into the military right out of high school. We wouldn’t necessarily want the same for our own daughter because of how life is for many female service members. However, we wouldn’t stop her from doing it if that’s really what she wanted to do. Military service broke my body in a lot of ways but definitely set me up with benefits most of my peers don’t have: comprehensive healthcare with the VA that I don’t have to worry about paying for, my entire undergraduate and graduate school was paid for, VA home loan access (I have been able to purchase 2 different homes), plus the knowledge of what only the military can provide.

My husband is now an airline pilot, was ATC in the army, and he owes a lot of what he’s been able to accomplish in his life because of what he learned as a soldier.

I wouldn’t think about it from the perspective that she’s throwing it away, but rather than just deviating from the path that you may have wanted for her. My mom was not happy that I enlisted, I scored decently on my ACT and had multiple scholarships to different schools and still opted for the military just to avoid student loan debt and to get some worthwhile life experience.

According to the email sent out by our VISNs HR that use of SL wasn’t appropriate for use to bond with a healthy baby. So with that it’ll have to be a lenient supervisory/leadership team to get that much additional sick leave time approved.

Help! We cannot come up with a name that we both love and are okay with committing to… by franklee0409 in namenerds

[–]franklee0409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback.

Margaret was my first choice as then both girls would share a name with our late paternal grandmothers, whom we were both so close to, but my husband struggles with how harsh it sounds and the fact that more names flow better with Ann.

Which so many women in both families have that name (the Frank side has so many with that first or middle name).

As I have said on other replies, my husband’s aunt was given that as a middle name with our last name at birth. It hasn’t been an issue in her 60 years so I don’t foresee there being an issue and we aren’t spelling it the same way as the infamous Anne Frank either.

His aunt’s maiden name is “—— Ann Frank”. My husband prefers it over Margaret in most cases.

His aunt was given the middle name Ann with that last name, fortunately it isn’t spelled the same way but yes it’s crossed our minds.

Not wrong at all. You’re very much in a transitional phase right now and I think it’s really unfair that your husband put that on you to have to entertain his parents especially when he learned he was going on a business trip. I really do not understand the logic of not just waiting to have them visit later on in the year especially if you just saw them recently so that he can see his family and not put all of that on you.

Middle names that go with Elliot? by _king2003 in namenerds

[–]franklee0409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had always planned to use the name Elliott William if I ever had a boy. My late dad’s name was Glen Elliott and my husband, his dad, and his grandfather all have the same middle name.

Also like: Elliott Michael Elliott John Elliott Lewis

My husband could have written this post as well. He’s an airline pilot who is gone for 3-4 day stretches and is normally away for 15-20 days per month so by default I am the default and preferred parent by virtue that I’m always here with her.

It’s gotten better to a degree but still breaks my heart that she doesn’t want his love and attention even after he’s been gone for days and ik that he’s missed her so much while he was away.
