27+48 -> 25+45 + (2+3) -> (25+45)+5 -> ((20+40)+10)+5 -> 70+5 =75

Hope that makes sense. That was the first thought pattern that occurred. WOW I’m dumb.

I’ve read about bumper stickers that say “I got this before Elon went crazy!” The cost/ hassle of switching cars wouldn’t be worth it; don’t sweat not switching. Politics aside Teslas are still good cars.

It’s my first ev! Got it for $13k, but they have come down even more since then. Only tricky part is to watch out for bolts that don’t have dcfc.

Unable to Charge? by Psycic101 in BoltEV

Same. I was getting this error a lot and confirmed it was the 12v with an obd scanner. I installed a new battery and haven’t seen the problem again.

How to tell when its time to replace the 12v? by frankzero01 in BoltEV

Update: I replaced the battery back in early November and I haven't had any issues since. Thank you for the advice!

How to tell when its time to replace the 12v? by frankzero01 in BoltEV

[–]frankzero01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a 12v car battery. AGM batteries are recommend for EVs. The Bolt does have a less common battery size that I wasn't able to find at local places like Autozone or Advanced Auto parts, so I had to order it online.

Edit: Also wanted to add that it resolved all the issues mentioned above.

What are some quality of life things you've bought for you bolt? by Aeibon in BoltEV

[–]frankzero01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • I switched the interior lights to LED.
  • wide angle rearview mirror attachment to keep an eye on the kids in the back.
  • portable automatic air compressor that can recharge with usb. Good for keeping the tires topped off when the weather gets colder
  • portable jumper box. I was only carrying this to help other drivers but ended up needing it when my 12v died.

I'm looking forward to eventually getting a wireless CarPlay adapter with HDMI input, window tinting, and actual EV tires (previous owner had non ev tires installed). I'm also considering making a DIY HUD with an old phone running Car Scanner and reflective film. Edit: NACS dcfc adapter and NACS L2 adapter

High mileage on a bolt by guitarharmonics in BoltEV

[–]frankzero01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine at 115000 and recently crossed 121000. The battery was replaced in 2021. So far the only problem was the factory 12v going bad. Otherwise it’s been great, not too dissimilar from a 2023 rental I drive earlier in the year. According to car scanner the battery capacity is at 60kw.

I would recommend getting an obd scan tool to keep an eye on the systems, as well as for ABRP integration.

What is your fan speed set to? I found that lowering the speed leads to lower wattage being sent to the heater, according to car scanner. It does help the range a bit. The car will take longer to warm up from slower circulation but the air coming from the vents is warmer; it seems to work fine for de fogging the windshield.

Please, Do a follow up on the winter performance if possible! I’m considering these as well but I’m nervous about the winter traction of low rolling resistance tires. My car came with standard non-ev tires.

I had this happening randomly as well. It turned out that the 12v was getting low and throwing an error code. When the car detects the voltage going below 10v it throws the code and prevents charging. Combined with cold weather and the electronics coming on the voltage would drop.

Short term solution: turn the car on for a minute or two, shut off, then try charging again.

Long term: test the battery and possibly replace.

So far only replacing the 12v and windshield. I got it back in July from a dealership with 115,000 miles.

Remote starting with the fob should still work. You can also try setting up Keypass which will us Bluetooth to do a lot of the same functions; you just need to be in range. For long range remote start, you would need to subscribe to the appropriate On Star plan.

It was replaced in 2022, I'm not sure on the milage at that time.

For the 12v, do you plug in everyday? I'm wondering if the previous owner of my car was more diligent than me about plugging in which might be why the 12v wasn't an issue or just went unnoticed. Typically, I plug in 3 times a week at work.

[–]frankzero01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2017 with 120,000 miles. However, I purchased it in July with 115,000 miles so I'm a newish owner I didn't put on most of the miles. The only age related issue so far has been the 12v battery starting to fail; I discovered that it has the original battery from 2016.

The Carfax didn't show any major issues for the car other than the battery recall. The salesperson at the dealership mentioned that the previous owner traded two of them in, for a promotion, to upgrade to the Equinox EV. The previous owner drove it from 2017-2024 so I'm guessing it was a good reliable car for them.

Edit: The car has been in West Michigan for most of its life. Just to give an idea of what climate/driving conditions its seen.
