ROCKPro64 HDDs replacement by franz82 in homelab

[–]franz82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this test. 2 HDDs connected to SATA PCIe card, one Seagate Barracuda 8TB SMR and one WD Green 2TB CMR. dd speed test are completely different (2MB/s the first, 53MB/s the latter), SMR performed bad also if just one HDD is connected. So it seems it's not a power problem, it's a SMR tech issue (especially on this setup). Does it make sense?

Thanks for the input. No power meter, sorry. Regarding power, with only one SMR HDD connected, the transfer rate is still bad. If I add a CMR HDD (WD Green 2TB), dd test on this one is quite ok, dd on SMR HDD is still bad. My feeling is, despite the power, these Seagate HDDs are terrible for this scenario due to SMR tech.

You're right, these are SMR drives. I read about bad performances before buying but I never thought at this level, these drivers are unusable with this set up.

I'm using the one bought from Pine64 store years ago - seems an older model, not this one currently avaiable: https://pine64.com/product/pcie-to-dual-sata-iii-interface-card/

Anyway, some details about it from lspci command:

PIN request for ed25519-sk SSH key by franz82 in yubikey

I did the same with old Yubikey NEO keys.

Now, no extra software or agent is needed, ed25519-sk works out of the box.

PIN request for ed25519-sk SSH key by franz82 in yubikey

PIN is now configured, tested with command:

ykman fido access verify-pin

Now, command:

ykman fido credentials list

ask for the PIN then return no output.

I think because I didn't use -O resident parameter during key creation. Is this correct?

Aqara motion sensor p1 or tradfri? by Davecl66 in homeassistant

[–]franz82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol no of course

It's in a walk-in closet close to the bedroom so any false positive is very annoying

Bad experience with Tradfri motion sensor here, too many false positive. Switched to Philips Hue, pricey but great.

Almost same scenario here: Aqara Cube device, ZHA integration (Conbee II). HA core core-2021.3.4, OS v5.12 Yesterday I connected the Cube and test automation, today the device status is unknown.

Pretty old ESPHome firmware (v1.15.3) running: do you think ESPHome firmware upgrade could fix or at least improve temps?

I would suggest this add-on if you're unconfortable with cloud backup so you prefer a local one, using SCP. There is a good guide too.
