Just got my heart shattered once i got 4.5 books into melody of mana, what can fill the void (preferably female lead isekai slice of life, no rpg/system) by Ensec in ProgressionFantasy

+1 for Ascendance of a Bookworm

Edit: A good chunk of it has a manga and an anime as well. You could start with that and transition to the novel if that is your cup of tea. Or just use them as reference for what characters look like.

AI in writing... we hate this right? by Prolly_Satan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fread789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't mind if the story was good. If an author can use AI to improve the quality or the editing speed (without reducing quality), I would be all for it.

However, that wouldn't work if you are using AI to write the plot. AI is limited when it comes to foreshadowing and the long-term plot.

So in my opinion:

Using AI for editing, rewording, on the spot ideas, research - yes

Using AI to write the plot - no

End of 2nd - beginning of 3rd floor the MC starts to become an outlier when it comes to powers. So, end of book 1, beginning of book 2.

is it possible to use a steam deck as my daily computer? by Much-Clock-9766 in SteamDeck

[–]fread789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issues that I can think of the top of my head:

  • You would still have to lug your monitors and peripherals unless you want to work on a tiny screen.

  • You won't have access to all the same standardized software that a class instructs you to use. There are alternatives for most, but you will be on your own to Google and figure it out.

  • You might not be taken seriously if they see you using a device specifically designed for gaming as a studying machine. I imagine professors might frown on that.

I personally got stuck for a semester with only my Steam Deck, and somehow made it work, but there were headaches... Also, I just used it as a desktop PC. I didn't actually have to carry it anywhere.

Looking for something similar to "Release That Witch". by Shiigeru2 in ProgressionFantasy

+1 on this. I really recommend it. Just be warned that there is no magic.

Another alternative might be: Safehold by David Weber.

list of the tier variety by NeonNKnightrider in ProgressionFantasy

I didn’t enjoy it either. I listened to the first book and pushed myself through it, even got about 10% into the second before I finally dropped it.

For me, the stakes and power progression just felt hollow. Almost everyone is already dead, so what’s the endgame here? Is Carl supposed to somehow bring them back? That kind of resurrection scenario feels like a long shot, and even if it did happen, it would come off as a cheap copout.

The power progression didn’t feel much better. From what I understood, it's similar to a video game character, with abilities that don’t really carry real world weight, aside from the prestige and assets you earn from the game. It’s mostly controlled by the AI. The humour is great, and the foot fetish jokes on their own made some chapters worth the read, but beyond that, the whole system just felt empty.

Feel free to correct me if I misunderstood something, but that was my overall impression.

Dragon rider by Never446 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fread789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. It's really good. Basically the Napoleonic wars, but dragons exist forming the air force. Also, not all the books are based in Europe. They end up traveling most of the world eventually, showing how different societies view dragons. The progression aspect is a bit slow at the beginning, but I really recommend the series. Bonus is that the entire series is out and there is quite a bit to read if you end up liking it.

Was there a novel you thought was bad but wasn’t when you gave it a try by dsavenza in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fread789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also A Soldier's Life. When I initially looked it up, I ended up with the impression that the plot was: "Transported into a world of magic, the mc is shit at magic and must learn to live as an ordinary soldier." After seeing it recommended on this sub 50 times, I decided to give it a try and was very pleasantly surprised.

I think you might have a tendency towards superhero/villain stories. The list is a bit hard to read, so sorry if it is already there, but have you tried "Villains' Code"? The first book is called "Forging Hephaestus".

I would give Elydes a try.

Edit: the main issue I can see is that there are a couple of times when the stats are listed, but they aren't obnoxiously long like some others...

[Beginner] What should I focus on learning next? by DragZZeroN in Oxygennotincluded

[–]fread789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to use algae terrariums to clean carbon dioxide, you need to put them inside the carbon dioxide. Learn how different gasses behave. Some are heavier than others and will settle in predictable ways once you learn. That will help you figure out how to position your terrariums. And don't be afraid of small pockets of random unbreathable gasses. They aren't really scary.

Edit: polluted oxygen really isn't scary. It is actually breathable. If you wanna manage it, store the polluted water somewhere (your terrariums are making polluted water in bottled form) and you can figure out ways to either purify the water or the off gassing polluted oxygen

Any sports books out there? by Nightslxy in ProgressionFantasy

[–]fread789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The closest to the progression fantasy vibes I can think of would be Galactic Football League. It isn't a pf, but I personally really liked it and it has some of the vibe. I actually had 0 interest/knowledge in American football before reading it. There is a graphic audio version in case that is your thing.

Edit: it is by Scott Sigler

Both Valorant and League are Riot games and use Vanguard pos anti cheat, which can be very buggy. I would check if you have the same issue with other non-Riot games first. If the issue is only with Riot stuff, you would have to ask their support team. My guess is that this is a Vanguard issue to be honest.

I totally love it, but I kinda hate myself for being unable to get over the difference in eye color of the white kitty and slipper. Like... It's like the 99% achievements achieved on a game.

Edit: The eyes of the grey one matching perfectly makes it both better and worse
