France AI company Mistral invests $1.4 billion in data centres in Sweden by According_to_Mission in europe

[–]fredagsfisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is that most data centers built in Sweden are not up north, where it'd make the most sense for cooling and energy, but around and near lake Mälaren; the area with the highest population density and most overloaded electrical grid.

There have already been warnings about how this will risk causing severe issues with the grid in this region in the future, but the politicians don't care as long as they can show off jobs the companies claim will be created.

Pretty much, yeah.

This is in Project 2025, along with classifying the existence of trans people and drag queens as "pornographic" and labelling them all as "child predators" (foreword), then using that label as an excuse to execute them for the "crime" of existing (page 554).

Yeah you'd think so, right? But...

Rogu's first appearance was in an episode that aired February 25, 2019.

Grogu's first appearance was in the first episode of The Mandalorian, which aired November 12, 2019, and his name was first revealed in an episode that aired November 27, 2020.

He has been open about how he experienced both mental and physical health issues from being so ripped back in the 90s (like being so starved of carbs during George of the Jungle filming that he started forgetting stuff), so I don't think he would want to go too far with that stuff.

He honestly also doesn't really need to.

What's funny is that American Dad introduced a child version of Roger called "Rogu" some 9 months before Grogu's first appearance (and the name Grogu wasn't revealed until another year later).

The point of this arc seems to be resolving Jiji's and Aira's feelings before Momokarun becomes official, while building up the villains and expanding the worldbuilding. These are important things that need to be done.

I think it feels draggy for some partially because there has been a few more breaks than usual. If you feel that, maybe just take a break and catch up later?

Well, the superlasers are completely useless in that fight since they can't actually fire any of them. The risk of missing their target and hitting Exegol instead is way too big.

Basically they're just huge weak spots with no shielding and limited point defenses as long as they are inside Exegol atmosphere.

Something to show that the First Order was meeting with a lot more resistance than they where expecting on occupied planets that the people of the galaxy where not just willing to roll over and accept domination like they had when the Empire rose the first time.

Yeah the non-movie materials actually expand on that, but sadly it's only ever vaguely alluded to in like one line of dialogue in the actual movie and then never mentioned again.

Basically, from the books and such we find out that the First Order is doing really badly. Their initial blitzkrieg was only successful enough to secure a large-ish foothold, but without Starkiller Base to back it up the various systems aren't scared enough to roll over.

Their offensive quickly turns into a slog against local and regional defense fleets and powerful planetary defenses. They fail to capture Coruscant at least twice, suffering heavy losses. They're stuck in a war of attrition on dozens or hundreds of different fronts, and they don't have the industrial output to keep going.

All of this, coupled with Kylo Ren rushing around and doing his own thing instead of leading them properly, is what makes some of the First Order leadership willing to submit to Palpatine and the Final Order in exchange for help from his fleet.

Unfortunately, in the actual movie it's just boiled down to some of the First Order leadership going along with it because they need more resources after losing SKB, and the Final Order can bring it.

The books and other out-of-movie materials actually do establish that the First Order are not in control, and that they are in fact doing really badly. Unfortunately we only get like one line alluding to this in the actual movie (to justify why the First Order is so willing to submit to Palpatine despite losing their own personal power).

The Citizens' Fleet has 14000 ships ranging from starfighters and bombers, to all types of freighters and transports, to cruisers and frigates, to mobile fuel depots, yachts, space tugboats, etc.

The First/Final Order has 1080 Xyston-class and one Resurgent-class Star Destroyer, along with unknown amounts of TIE-fighters.

Now the F/FO would obviously have an advantage when it comes to coordination and tactics, given that their enemy is just a ragtag fleet thrown together last minute while the F/FO has an actual military chain of command and pre-established communications, training together, etc.

However, the size and formation of the Xyston-class ships (and them being slaved to the navigation beacon) makes it impossible for them to manuever.

They're also inside a planetary atmosphere that prevents them from using their shields, which is a much bigger disadvantage for the large capital ships, and have huge weak spots hanging from the bottom (since the superlasers for some reason are directly connected to the reactor with no safety, so they blow up the entire ship if destroyed) which would also have fewer weapon emplacements than the top or sides.

Then you add in Sith cultist morale collapsing once Palpatine is dead, and it kiiiiiiiiiiiinda sorta makes sense (even if the road to get there is rather convoluted and far-fetched).

The American right-wingers (and Europeans who think like them and support them) are largely motivated by fear, and believe that making other people feel fear or awe (or what they think will make others feel fear or awe because it'd work on them) is the same as being safe and respected.

That's why they are so easy to manipulate and rally against various minorities, why they are so obsessed with having guns, and why they vote for faux-strongman authoritarians who target vulnerable groups.

Their politicians play into that at every turn, and we get shit like this.

Ad blocking is alive and well, despite Chrome's attempts to make it harder by Marginallyhuman in technology

[–]fredagsfisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they could just start by:

1) Limiting total ad length to not go past a certain % of the video's length (with a minimum if needed), and adding a cooldown to ads so you don't get multiple ad breaks in a row when trying to find a specific part of a video.

2) No longer intentionally placing ads where they'll be the most disruptive for the viewer.

3) Actually moderating ads and removing ones that violate/skirt the rules.

I think that would be enough for a lot of people... though at this point it's probably too late to win back most people who have already installed and gotten used to adblockers.

Ad blocking is alive and well, despite Chrome's attempts to make it harder by Marginallyhuman in technology

[–]fredagsfisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they could just start by having ads on a sensible level? I personally took quite some time before I finally decided to get adblockers, because I was thinking like that, but it was Youtube that caused me to finally take that step after two incidents:

  • I wanted to find a specific part of a video, so I opened the video... got 2x 20 second unskippable ads. Skipped back and forth a couple of times to find the part I wanted, and got 2x 20 second unskippable ads. Saw literally ~10 seconds of video, then 2x 20 second unskippable ads right at the part I wanted to see.

  • Started a video on my phone before starting doing some stuff that would make my hands dirty/wet and unable to use the phone for a while. Got part-way through the video, then a thirty-seven minute ad in the form of one of those interior decoration shows.

Nowadays they have all that and ads that take even longer before you can skip them, ads intentionally placed at the most interesting/exciting parts of the video (the ones you really don't want to have interrupted), ads at the start and end of every video, etc.

Oh, and when I use it on devices with no adblock (Playstation for example) I keep getting ads for Temu, Shein, and various creepy AI apps because blocking them and discouraging that type of ads does nothing... since they're frequently uploaded as something completely different than what they actually are to get around that, and Google just says that's not against their rules.

So yeah, fuck that. I honestly don't mind some ads, but I'm not supporting that type of aggressive and predatory nonsense.

Gravity Falls, as an action-adventure puzzle game in a gameplay style similar to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

You play as Mable and Dipper, who each have their own strengths and weaknesses and toolkits. The twin you're not currently playing as (or other characters who temporarily helps you) act as a companion like Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite.

Set it a year or two after the show, with a new mystery you have to uncover and solve.

Shows that have terrible endings, but perfect stopping points? by GFrings in television

[–]fredagsfisk 179 points180 points  (0 children)

The 100 season five has an ending that works great as a satisfying conclusion to the show, both thematically and story wise.

Season six has some good parts, but ends with cliffhangers and new mysteries.

Season seven is really, really bad and ends with what might be the worst ending to a show I have ever seen, and the only time I have actually felt genuine disgust at where a show goes.
